I'm having the same problem with Version 0.71.3, November 10, 2008.

Turning on autosave works until I restart taskcoach but then the option
is off again.

Crash after upgrade to 0.71.3

I recently upgraded from 0.70.3 (I think although the evidence is now destroyed).

On opening my task file, taskcoach crashes immediately - I'm attaching a screenshot with the Traceback.

As I cannot now use the system I tried to regress but don't have a copy of my previous version and it's not available on source forge.  Can anyone point me at a 0.70 version?

Okay, I thought we got rid of this one... I'll fix this for the next
release.

SourceForge keeps all files (actually they don't even provide a way to
delete one). On the SourceForge project home, click
"Download/Windows", then follow the link "Browse all packages", then
click on "taskcoach" on the left. You'll see a list of all releases.

Cheers

Re: Crash after upgrade to 0.71.3

Thank you.  I guess you know what the problem is then :-)

For the record it was failing because some attachment files were missing, creating the missing files helped for a bit then it failed to parse the files.  I decided I did not really need the attachments anyway so manually removed them from the xml file.   All seems well now.

Anyway thanks for your help, and all the work on the product - great job.

[ANN] Release 0.71.4 of Task Coach

Hi,

We're happy to announce release 0.71.4 of Task Coach. This release
fixes a few bugs.

Bugs fixed:
* Opening an old .tsk file with missing e-mail attachments would crash
Task Coach.
* Don't throw exception when showing an (error) message while synchronizing.
* When merging from the same file multiple times, update the existing
items instead of duplicating them.
* Don't set negative priorities to zero in the task editor (Linux only).
* Save the column width of the first column when automatic resizing of
columns is off.
* Actually delete tasks and notes when SyncML is disabled.
* Do not create subitems in two steps, this is counter intuitive.
* Properly iterate over the open viewers with Ctrl-PgDn and Ctrl-PgUp.
* Update the task viewer when a note is deleted from a task.
* Update the tray icon tool tip when deleting an overdue task.
* Wrap long lines in description tool tip windows.

Feature added:
* Add a "Purge deleted items" entry in the File menu for people who
have been using Task Coach with SyncML disabled.

What is Task Coach?

Task Coach is a simple task manager that allows for hierarchical
tasks, i.e. tasks in tasks. Task Coach is open source (GPL) and is
developed using Python and wxPython. You can download Task Coach from:

http://www.taskcoach.org

In addition to the source distribution, packaged distributions are
available for Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X, and Linux (Debian and RPM
format).

Note that Task Coach is alpha software, meaning that it is wise to
back up your task file regularly, and especially when upgrading to a
new release.

Cheers, Task Coach developers

RE: [ANN] Release 0.71.4 of Task Coach

The good news: The new "Purge" feature appears to work like a champ.  My tsk file went from 399K to 204K.
The not-as-good news: Slowness appears to be unaffected.

As always Frank, Jerome, et al, many thanks for the great program.

PS: Could you guys detail your development setup for me?  I downloaded the source and tried to get a build going, but quickly got lost.

There is no "build" per se, Python is interpreted. All you need is

  * Python (http://www.python.org/)
  * wxPython (http://www.wxpython.org/)
  * win32all (http://python.net/crew/mhammond/win32/Downloads.html)

To generate icons, translation files and templates first, issue the
following commands:

cd icons.in
python make.py
cd ..\i18n.in
python make.py
cd ..\templates.in
python make.py

Then you should be able to run from source in the top directory:

python taskcoach.py

Great, thanks Jerome, I'll give it a try tonight.

Do you use any particular Python-aware IDE?

You wouldn't call that an IDE; I use Emacs and various Unix
command-line tools. I think Frank uses Eclipse. With some knowledge of
the code base, one could use Notepad and still be as productive :)

Re: [ANN] Release 0.71.4 of Task Coach

I use both emacs and eclipse, but Eclipse with pydev is very nice for integrated work with a nice project browser.  The project browser is very good for learning the file structure of TaskCoach.  It isn't worth learning emacs just for Taskcoach development, but it is a great editor. :-)
