NCU

Long time since I've posted a technical NCU question.
Anyway, I am having trouble creating a soup using the kDCreateSoup
command in 2.0 protocol.
I set the name to C-string, and index description to empty array. I keep
getting "Out of memory" even though my internal memory card has 1MB+.
Please advise.

Nitrozac and Snaggy rarely miss a chance to sneak in a Newton reference.

Unresponsive Newton

Today, I fired up my Newton —specifically a MessagePad 2000u, after
several days of disuse, and lo and behold, the system is
unresponsive. Specifically the touchscreen. The reset and on/off/
backlight buttons work, the Newton recognizes PCMCIA cards, basically
everything seems to be working as usual, except for the digitizer. I
don't think it’s the dreaded jaggies.

I hope it’s a software issue, although hopefully not one that
requires a hard reset.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Unresponsive Newton

Jaggies usually involves some displacement of stylus input.
A broken port door can cut the digitizer ribbon which goes around the
logic board at this point. loss of contact between theribbon could
result from corrosion but a few days of disuse shouldn't cause this.

I doubt that a Brainwipe would be necessary but I would try holding
the reset button for about 20 seconds.

Good luck
Woody

WTB: PDA Panache stylus

Hello,

I'm looking for one of these for an MP2100. Please tell me what color stylus
you have, the condition it's in, and your asking price, along with shipping to
zip 95132 (SF Bay Area).

I need the stylus shipped in a small box of some kind, please, to protect it
from the depredations of my local postal personnel (who seem fond of reenacting
past World Cups with my parcels serving as the football).

PayPal is my preferred payment method. Folks who can accept credit card-funded
PP payments will take priority over those who can only take balance transfers,
but I can do both.

Best,

James Fraser

This is not specified exactly in the Docking Protocol document, but I believe the kDCreateSoup event
command should look like:

long 'newt'
long 'dock'
long 'csop'
long total length of following data
long length of soup name string
char[] soup name string
       <align to long>
Ref soup index

I think an empty array should be okay for the index, but if you don’t align the soup index, the Newton end
will try to unflatten garbage leading to the “Out of memory.”

Could this be it?

Simon
