Could you please test two very simple pages with your Newtons?

Hi gang,

I'm planning to add a text-only page for every page on my site so that
people browsing with the Newton can at least figure out what this site is
about.

If you have an internet-enabled Newton: Could you please check if the
following two pages load OK and post your findings, along with the browser
you used, to the list?

	<http://www.pda-soft.de/en/software/software_to.html>

Thanks in advance

Frank

Hi Frank:

Looks good in Newt's Cape. I was always impressed with how your no_frames site loaded fine in Newt's Cape, as well.

The (es)pañol version appears as if it is not displaying some international characters correctly. Would
this be normal on a U.S. Newton?

An example is the word versiÛn or the word instalaciÛn. I would expect to see versión or instalatión, on
my Newton. Of course, how international characters display on a Newton, after conversion to Newt's Cape
or to/from Mail V, may be questionable at best, I'm sure. Worth a mention though.

Same thing with the (de)utsch version of that page. Only a different pattern of characters than the
(es)pañol characters.

Which do you think (the device or the HTML source) should be displaying the correct thing? Is it related to
the high ASCII character set?

hmmm...

Your (es)pañol version still has the <TITLE> in english. :-]

Net Hopper fails any version with some sort of IP error (in German): "Bitte benutzen sie nicht die IP Adresse
des Servers, sondern immer www.<Wunschname>.de !!"

Tried it on 2 MP2100's with Courier. Courier came up with a 404 error on
one Newton and nothing on the other. Both times I used the EN address.

Same result with Newtscape. Tested my Internet setup on other sites and it
works fine.

Another interesting note about the nuances of high ASCII:

This email, and the webpage itself, when displayed on my iPhone, will show the international characters
correctly.

Meaning: Û and ó, both show as a ó.

SEE: <http://twitpic.com/6tvqef> for the iPhone screenshot of the (es)pañol web page.

SEE: <http://t.co/KdIcMI6r> for a Newton screenshot of the high ASCII interpretations.

Re: Could you please test two very simple pages with your Newtons?

I tested the en version on a MP2100 using the latest version of Courier and it
rendered rather well. I did, however, notice that the paragraphs only had
single line breaks instead of the normal double line breaks and that the title
wasn't bold. I saved a copy, replaced all the instances of <br><br> with <p>
and replaced <strong>Software</strong> with <b>Software</b>, pushed it to my
Mac's local HTTP server and tried again. It rendered perfectly after those changes.

I tested both links (spanish and english) with the courir browser on my MP 2100
and it works fine.

Gratulation Frank.

Re: Could you please test two very simple pages with your Newtons?

I tried again and NewtsCape worked fine.
Also tried Nethopper with all Daniel's extensions, it downloaded main
page, but links required selecting no frames.
I'm not getting downloads but may not have all extensions installed.
Excellent
