Looking for LTC902 chip datasheet

Hi gang,

does anybody have a datasheet for a Linear Technology
driver chip LTC 902? That's the chip that drives the
serial port of the older Newton models. Or could anyone
point me to a url where I can find such a beast?

Thanks

Frank

Re: AA Battery Tray Issues

will boot up, and then it dies. What gives? I've tried this with two different sets of newly-charged AA batteries.

pack has?

That is odd. Did you try pressing the reset button? I would test all
the AA's, perhaps you have a bad one in the bunch (or more than one).
As for the contacts, no you don't need them. They are only for
rechargeable packs to tell the Newt that it is a rechargeable pack and
to read the battery temp.

I would also try pressing the reset button to see if that helps.

I think it depends on the router you want the card to
talk to. I have a couple of Turbo Bronze cards, and I've
never been able to make them talk to my DrayTek Vigor
router. It didn't matter whether I tried the card in
a Newton (which works perfectly well with a Lucent Silver)
or in a notebook running Windows 98 (which also works
with the Lucent Silver).
People have reported success with NetGear routers I think.
And many have reported problems with Lucent Bronze cards
and Airport Extreme stations. What is certain is that you need
to turn of WEP since the Bronze Turbo card does not support
this.

If, by the way, someone is aware of a place where a firmware
update for this card can be downloaded, I'd be thankful for
a hint. I'm not sure, though, if this card can be updated at
all.

Just in case you haven't seen it yet, the following page
(under construction) might be of a little help:

Re: Jaggies

The only one I'm aware of who might have new digitizers
is Calvin Greer. He is the guy who also sells the
replacement backlights, and he used to sell a backlight
and a digitizer as a set. Not sure if they are still
available, though.
Other than that, your only chance would be getting a
decent used Newton or a dead one with a good digitizer
and do a bit of transplant surgery.

> I thought about trying to clean the jaggied units
> but maybe it's not worth the time.=20

Well, it can't hurt, and it does not take much time
to do it. If there's much dirt in the area where the
digitizer touches the inside of the bezel, removing it
might help to a certain degree. After all, you have
nothing to loose, have you?

Cheers

Frank

Re: Looking for LTC902 chip datasheet

Unfortunately that is just a parts broker. He needs a data sheet or
data book at or around that time (most IC's from that era are EOL) I
checked my library and I don't have a Linear Technology data book -
although it is a 422 line driver. Do you just need a pinout or actual
specs?

Lol, what a little world! Thank you for the contact Andrew!! I just
write for you in PVT. Thank you again for the "support" service!

Dock at 900K via serial hardware clocking

Hi,

i need help, as i cannot find the needed infos to make an accessory
which could let my MessagePad dock at 900K,
nor i have the skills to develop a single row of software, if it was
possible to do it this way.

Here is what i know:
  - thanks to software clocking (ser230400 extension) actually is
possible to connect the MessagePad to a Mac desktop at speedz of
230.4Kbps,
but the Newton mainboard serial chip (Zilog 8530) is capable of speedz
of 2000Kbps (2Mbit/s) when using external hardware clocking.
[I.e.: some old serial Epson printers used an onboard hardware clock
device to push at 900K the serial connection with a Mac,
and old serial QuickCam cameras estabilished connection at 1Mbit/s for
audio/video communications]

Zilog datasheet is available to the link below:
http://www.zilog.com/docs/serial/ps0113.pdf

Some thoughts:
  - i think that if we could dock the MessagePad at 2Mbit/s, it would be
great! Don't you?

  - although i am aware of the differences between a Macintosh and a
MessagePad mainboard, as the Zilog 8530 serial chip was used on old
Macs too,
maybe some compatibilities on the serial hardware layout could exist.
