Hmm, -1 Newton MP2100? Is it inside-out, or...oh. Gotcha. Never mind.

Power adapters mixing

Hello All,
I have a simple question. Is the power adapter interchangeable between
the eMate and the 2x00? And how critical is a broken PC card eject
button on a 2X00? Supposedly it still ejects using the stylus.

Thanks in Advance,

Re: Power adapters mixing

Yes, they are interchangeable. One puts out more juice than the other,
so one will charge up a bit faster.

Nope. Read this past thread from the list for more details.

Emate Power Adapters

Hello,

I picked up three Emates from a school surplus auction this past weekend.
Each came with a 4MB card and one came with nine AlphaSmarts, not that
AplphaSmarts matter to this email. But there where no power adapters. Does
anyone know of a source? I've searched eBay and someone is selling 9W (7.5 V
1.2 A) power adapters for the Newton 2x00, which the list archives tell me
is the same as the eMate's. Is this person's product any good or should I
look elsewhere?

I'd like to know if these computers work (batters are dead) before I work on
the hinges. Will the Emate power one through the power adapter or does it
prefer battery power? I wanted a Newt 2100, but I like the eMate too because
I can put it on one of my camera tripods.

Excelsior!
Shannon

Adhoc wireless - Newton & PC Laptop (or otherwise)

Okay. I'm stumped...

With a great tip from Jim Siburt (and a driver compliments Jim and Paul
Guyot), I purchased two Proxim Harmony OEM cards (C28-1076 P) from
TigerDirect hoping (at long last) to get in on the wireless revolution.
I've got one installed in my laptop, and it is doing what a good
wireless card should do - seeking out and finding a network and
connecting to it. That is, when I set it to infrastructure mode, seek
out an acces point, then connect to it. DHCP works fine.

The Newton, however, is not able to perform the same trick with the same
settings: "DHCP server unavailable or unable to configure." No WEP, no
SSID, infrastructure mode, set for DHCP.

However, this is minor nuisance - not being able to connect to a
configured network that my PC *can* connect to. What I'd really like to
do is have my Newton connect to my PC (running WinXP home edition) using
the adhoc setting and bridge this connection to "wired" gigabit LAN
connection.

Should I be able to do this, or am I expecting too much from the current
state of the wireless software on the Newt? Or, could it be a WinXP
config issue.

Thanks for any help,
blair

Re: Power Adapters mixing

You can use any Newton power adapter with any Newton, Jim. Only thing you'll
find is that the 7v adapter takes longer to charge a 2x Newt/eMate than a
9v.

A broken card eject button isn't critical ... if you can get cards in and
out another way. I've heard of people using pliers if things get desperate
