Table icon disappearing

  dear allin,
I noticed a strange behaviour while using the albanian translation: when
one wants to clear the Model table through the pop-up menu, the Table
icon simply disappears. I checked all the other languages and only found
the same reaction with the czech version. It seems as if the language
interface determines the way gretl works !?!?!?!

cheers :-)

Ah, gretl was getting confused by the fact that in the Albanian
translation the msgstrs for "Clear" and "Delete" are the same:
"Fshij". I suppose the same thing was happening with the Czech
translation. This is now fixed in CVS.

I don't know if there's a linguistic distinction of this sort to
be made in Albanian, but in English "Delete" mean to get rid of an
object, while "Clear" means to empty it, remove its contents.

(I get this mixed up myself sometimes, on the rare occasions when
I use MS Windows: I delete the trashcan when I mean to empty it!)

Ah, that's OK! :-)

Yes, there is (clear vs delete) but in this context I thought it may be
counterintuitive...

...the "model table" means a table with rows, columns, cells and lines,
but also a kind of whiteboard where the models are written into a
structured form.
The whiteboard being erasable (erase = delete=remove but also = efface)
I prefered the same word ("Fshij") which is commun for both meaning
(whiteboard and table)

Thank you a bunch, Allin

Edit Values Option on the Series Window

Dear Gretl Team,

I would like to make a feature request: when we double-click on a series it would be nice if we have an option to edit values on the series window (an new icon?). What do you think? Is this a great coding effort?

Best regards,

plot a curve

There may be a small bug in the "plot a curve" menu item. When I plot the function exp(x)-1 and set the x-range from -1 to +1, I get the function plot, but with a range from -1 to 0. Editing the plot easily adjusts the range, but it does seem awkward...

No, it's not a great effort. Added in CVS. What happens is that if
you click the new Edit icon at the top of the "view series"
window you get a spreadsheet window for the series. It's not
really possible to make the original display window itself
into a data editor on the fly. (Well, maybe possible but that
would be a "great coding effort".)

How are you doing this? If I choose /Tools/Plot a curve, enter
"exp(x)-1" in the formula field, set the "x minimum" to -1 and the
"x range" to 2 (1 minus -1 = 2) I get the x-axis running from -1
to +1 as expected.

gretl on local directory

 Hi,

I am trying to install Gretl on the laptop of the  class in which I will be teaching and I cannot because I don't have admin privilege. I have spaces on N:, which is on the network.  For example, I installed R on that drive without problem and it works fine.

I tried to add the file gretlnet.txt to the directory in which I put the installer and modify it to setup every directory to N:/gretl and it is not working. When I click on the installer it immediately says that I need admin privilege.

Is there a way to do it? Maybe it would be a good option to let the user install gretl anywhere he wants so that there is not privilege problem.

thanks
