Re: Hi

Hi,

I understand you need a simple listening task where the test subject hears
a stimulus and has to click on a corresponding button. For that you can
use the ExperimentMFC in Praat. See the manual
http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/manual/ExperimentMFC.html for examples how
to set it up.

Best,
Pärtel

Re: Count voiced/unvoiced segments

Ligia asked

that is supposed to count just the voiced segments (but it won't). After this works, I plan to add after the
echo in the for loop another 2 lines for unvoiced segments.

You don't need the loop for Count labels...

 - if you do you are likely to the same line repeated once for each interval

Yes, if you name your string list

	myList = selected("Strings")

then you can do

	select all
	minus myList
	Remove

(note the upper case 'R' for Remove)

impossible acoustic reading

Hi all,
I've never posted before and seem to have been assigned a ridiculous user name which I can't manage to get rid
of; sorry.
But I have a question which is not strictly PRAAT-related but more generally acoustic: I'm working on a
variant of South African English where a high F1 reading for a TRAP vowel (as in Wells' lexical sets) is
improbable, and also by ear is totally inaccurate; but all my formant readings give me a very high F1,
across all my data. I'm using PRAAT but this can't be a simple misreading of the formants, so does anyone
know why this might be happening? I've heard various explanations about possible secondary
articulation effects but need all the advice I can get.
Thanks in advance,
Kirsten

Integrating Praat inside JAVA or any other environment

B"H

Hi , Paul and everybody

I am trying to create interactive programs/games
for speech training for deaf/hearing impaired .
Let's say to work on pitch or loudness rate , or even phoneme recognition -
with some visual or animated feedback .
Actually , i strive to do very similar
to IBM Speech Viewer features .

I find a lot of relevant Praat stuff ,
yet i am not interested in Spectogam's or waveform output ,
but to create some graphic GAME-LIKE output ,
using some GRAPHIC LIBRARY .

I guess i need to get Praat script's result and to pass it ,
in some way , as input to my program for next step processing .

Is it possible ?
In other words , is there a way to INTEGRATE Praat inside
any other environment ?

I am new to Praat , so any guidance ,
especially relevant EXAMPLES are welcomed .

Sincerely ,
Avraham

Manipulating duration

To everyone:

I would like to get help on how to manipulate the duration of the first syllable of a word without touching the
second syllable. For instance the total word duration is 499ms and I want to shorten the first syllable
which is about 258ms to 248ms but keeping the second syllable constant to 237ms. I checked the manual and
read about how you can do this using a script however when I tried it I wasn't sure if it was working. It seemed
like there was no change with the duration of the first syllable. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from someone.

end demo window

Dear all,

is there a command to end the demo winow?
I tried:

demo End

and

demo Close

both with and without capitals but they return error messages.

demo Quit

shuts down Praat completely, which is not what I need.

Thanks for your help!

And another demo window question

Does the demo window work with praatcon?
It seems to me that it does not but I couldn't find an official
statement on this.
Thanks and best wishes,
Volker
