great. thank you for pointing me to this! i did not know how to solve
this problem. will include it soon.

in fact it is. with some patches (like netfilter pom)
we always merge from theis sources in order to have simple and stable
security updates.

EFW Release 2 on ESX 2.5

I have installed EFW on Release 2 on ESX server and it appears that I'm
having a kernel timing issue. I've run into this with ESX before, and the
solution was to patch the kernel, among other things. The easiest way to see
this problem manifest is with pings. From the outside world, ping the
firewall. Pings will drop at random times. If you ping from the EFW console,
you will see no drops, but the time between ping responses will be slower
than on a bare metal machine. Note that the response times will all look
fine and will not reflect any slowness, it's just in the printing of the
results of each ping request that you'll notice this.

Has anyone else had this issue or have any insight?

Network Traffic Graphs

Hey all,

My network traffic graphs seem to have stopped updating…  I gave it a couple of days to update but so far it hasn’t, it still shows, ”The statistics were last updated at: Tue Aug 22 07:00:10 2006” on the last graph.  Which was a little over a week ago…  Is there a setting somewhere that I may be missing, or is there something I can do to give it “kick in the pants”?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jonathan,

I noticed this as well under some circumstances. With me a refresh worked (F5). Maybe a clear cache could work as well.

Re: Network Traffic Graphs

It seems that I'm having the same issue since 3:00 this morning. I even tried IE (which I rarely use) so a cache issue is out of the question right now. I'm not sure if the 2 snort processes running in top say something....

The system graphs and the prixy graphs suffer from the same issue but not the SMTP graphs. Maybe someone with a more thourough knowledge of the logging tools could see a connection. It is almost like the graphic generating tool (maybe in the cron) is hanging??

 HTH

Marc

Re: Network Traffic Graphs

OK,

I just rebooted my EFW2 server. And after a few minutes the graphs where updated again but had a serious gap in them. Not that the system wouldn't do what it is supposed to do but one wonders....

Fw: [Efw-devel] 2 bugs installing on a dell server

Hi

i tried to install in a dell server, with a scsi raid card that uses
the cciss modules...

During install i got a grub install error and after that efw doesnt
work. Hand install the grub i found that grub is complaining that it cant
find the BIOS disks, do it cant create no device.map.

	I hand created one with:
(hd0)	/dev/cciss/c0d0

and installed grub without problema and booting seens to work...
...almost...

The next problem is that it cant mount the root filesystem, and
again checking the install i found that the fstab is using bad devices:
/dev/cciss/c0d0? instead of /dev/cciss/c0d0p?

please note that this kind of devices uses the p for the
partitions (that are generated fine by udev)

i tried to fix the fstab and generate a new initrd, but still
failled to mount the rootfs.

i then tried to install again and correct during the install both
errors. i check both the grub package install to create a device.map (so
to bypass the need to rebuild a new one) and correct the fstab when it
was updated from /harddisk/root to /dev/cciss/c0d01.

the kernel install this time whithout any warning, grub
installed fine and everything works.

So there is 2 bugs in the install, the first is the bad fstab
creating, its assuning sda -> sda1 like scsi device instead of checking
what really is used (c0d0 -> c0d0p1 in this case).

the other bug is probably a grub bug as i have another dell
server that install other linux distro (suse) without any problem.

thanks for efw

Naturally the common people don't want war... but after all it is the
leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a
simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or
a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of
the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are
being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and
exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.
