The "Travelling Library" is a library embedded in an EndNote-formatted
Word document. If the Word document you received was formatted with
EndNote, it already contains a travelling library. This library can be
exported to a regular EN library, using the Export Traveling Library
command. The procedure is described in detail in the manual: The
Traveling Library > Sharing Your Word Documents > Using EndNote with
Microsoft Word.

A few suggestions. First, it's useful to provide some information about
your system (i.e., EndNote version, word processor, operating system).
Second, when something changes suddenly, ask yourself what else has
changed. Third, illustrate your problem with an example or two. For
instance, if your problem is that the citation appears as (A.B. Smith,
1999) instead of (Smith, 1999), the cause might be that your paper cites
more than one author with the surname Smith.

Yes, there should. The semicolon is the multiple citation separator.
What I don't understand is what the comma is doing there.

What on Earth do these barbarous terms mean?

At any rate, it's a bad idea to keep two separate papers (if that's what
they are) as a single long document. Unless you absolutely have to, keep
them separate.

Re: Strange journal list problem

Hi Jeff,

Is "Foot and Ankle" actually on your journals term list? I just went
into Endnote X and manually added both to the list and it seems fine.

If it's not there, go to Tools/Open Term Lists/Journals Term List and
add a new term (Foot and Ankle). That's all I can think of, I'm afraid.

I'm having a strange problem with a particular journal that appears on
EndNotes packaged journal term list. Two of the journals that appear on
the list are similar: Foot and Ankle International and Foot and Ankle.
When I start typing "Foot and..." in the journal line, the journal tries
to complete it as "Foot and Ankle International." Wanting just "Foot and
Ankle," I delete the International part, but the "Foot and Ankle"
portion appears red, meaning it's not recognized from the journal terms
list. This causes a problem when making a reference list requiring the
journal's abbreviated form because EndNote doesn't recognize the journal
on the term list, so it can't substitute in the abbreviation. I've
checked all the spellings and tried everything I can think of to get it
to work right. I've had this problem in both version 8 and version X
(didn't use version 9). Any ideas?

EndNote connection file errors

Hi,

I currently have some errors when I tried to connect to some online
catalogs. Does anyone know whether it is due to the reason that I need
to get a subscription ID and password or because they have updated the
server?

RE:

Yes, if you have endnote, you can get the references (but don't need to)
using the "export traveling library" option from the word menu
tools>endnote -tools BUT it won't have the right record numbers to use
with that particular manuscript.

If my understanding of how term lists work is correct, that indicates a
problem. In EN's sort order, "Foot and Ankle" comes before "Foot and
Ankle International". Consequently, when you type ""Foot and...", EN
should complete it as "Foot and Ankle", not as "Foot and Ankle
International", and that's how EN behaves on my machine.

It looks like "Foot and Ankle" is missing from the journals list. Check
the term list, make sure the term is there, and make sure it's the
correct term, not something like "Foot and<non-breaking space>Ankle".

This does not happen for me in EndNote v.7. If I type in "Foot and . .
" it just gives me Foot and Ankle, and it formats/abbreviates it
appropriately in the document. I need to type the "I" to get
international.

Have you tried deleting the Foot and Ankle journal term list item and
retyping it in yourself? Not sure if that would help.

RE: style problem

Try file >save as ---to a new name. If it still doesn't work, you
probably don't have write access for the drive. In which case, you want
to copy it to a local folder, and change your preferences to use that
folder.

Dear support person, I am using Endnote 9 with a book manuscript and
wish to edit the author-date output style. I edit the style and then a
dialogue box asks if I want to save the changes-I say yes and try and
close the edit section and it refuses to close (even if I try no). In
the end I have to close down endnote and of course the edit changes I
made have been lost. Any ideas? Thanks

Experiences with Digital Download of Endnote?

I was hoping to upgrade from Endnote 7 to Endnote 10 by digital download
but I was somewhat taken aback by the offer to purchase 'backup' disks
for an additional $12. Does this mean that I do not have the capability
of burning my own back-up disks after downloading? What if I move to a
new computer? Am I then forced to purchase a whole new program?

If anyone has experience with this I would sure like some advice.

Thanks,

Tom
