RE: citations

Your style is doing the sort by year then author: if you had two citations
of the same year, it would then put the earlier one first. What you want is
to cite by year but group authors together, and there's no way of doing this
automatically.
Set your style to stop reordering citations, and do it manually. Thankfully,
you can do them all in one fell swoop from the edit citations box in word.

Subject: citations

The journal I am submitting an article to (International Journal of Science
Education) requires sorting citations by year and then by author. I haven't
figured out what to do in the following case.

I want the result to be:

(Smith 1981, 2000; Richards 1996)

I instead get

(Smith 1981; Richards 1996; Smith 2000)

Ideas?

Thanks.

RE: endnote-interest-digest V1 #1962

Endnote (v8) has - suddenly - stopped working within Word (2003). That is,
none of the Endnote commands under "Tools" have any effect - I can only
format references by using RTF scan. I checked macro security to see if that
was blocking things and set it to "lowest" but no change. Could this be a
virus or have I accidentally modified some setting? Any help would be
appreciated.

Re: endnote-interest-digest V1 #1961

Hi Kathryn:

Thanks very much for your reply.

I have since had success by downloading the 2 CWYW files from the endnote
website (as opposed from the endnote cd) and copying them to the startup
file. My endnote CD was copied from a server to a CD and then onto my mac (I
work at a university with a site licence) so maybe the files on the uni copy
are corrupt or have since been updated by Endnote.

Already endnote 9 seems like an improvement, if for no other reason than it
doesn¹t crash word every time I format a reference! Thanks again for your
advice several other people in my department are also upgrading so I¹ll
pass the details on to them as they will no doubt run into similar problems.

Regards,
Caroline

Selecting the library when importing references into EndNote

Hi,

I know this is a historic thing when you're using EndNote - but what I'd like to know is whether (using Windows
XP and EndNote 9), anyone knows of a way around the browse to find a library each time... if the EndNote
Libraries are kept in the same place, is there a way to force where EndNote should look?

Thanks,

Tom

RE: endnote-interest-digest V1 #1962

Hello!
I need to get the number ranges for consecutive citations to be joined
by a single dash, for ex. 3-8, etc. I have checked that option under
the Citation Template, Numbering, but currently get "3 4 5 6 7 8." Can
you tell me what else to do to make that happen?

Thank you!

RE: endnote-interest-digest V1 #1962

I thought it was just me....
I am running Office 2003 and End Note 9.
I have style set as Chicago review, but they come up as unformatted. When I
manually adjust the format I lose the reference at the end. I lost the
entire set of references from the paper and got them reinstalled by pasting
the entire library into the document, and then deleting the ones I don't
need. Since I'm not done with the paper, I am typing in the references
manually in the body of the doc, and highlighting them, so that I will know
they are not in the reference section at the end. I'm hoping to copy the
missing references into the references section when I am done. This work
around is enough trouble that I am wondering why I bought the software.

Not so cheery,
Annette

Re: Trouble getting CWYW in word for mac

Hi M:

Thanks for the advice. The 6 was a typo - the files were actually for
endnote 9. I have since had success by downloading the 2 CWYW files from the

startup file. My copy of endnote was copied from a server to a CD and then

RE: Selecting the library when importing references into EndNote

I can't help with an EndNote solution, but I get around it by using a freeware program, clipomatic
http://www.mlin.net/Clipomatic.shtml. I have the path to my EndNote library saved as a permanent
'clip', and whenever prompted (e.g. on downloading a citation from a journal database) it only takes a
second to paste the path in the dialogue box.
