Manuscript Templates for JAMA and Pediatrics

I'm using EndNote 6. I was exploring the Manuscript Template feature (Tools
> Manuscript Templates) and could not find templates for Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA) or Pediatrics. These templates were also
not listed among the template downloads at
http://www.endnote.com/support/entemplates.asp

Any ideas?

Kurt

Multiple bibliographies within a document?

Just wondering if it is possible (with Endnote 7) to insert multiple
bibliographies in a document? I have a multi-chapter document with
bibliographies at the end of each chapter.

I realize that I could use a master document with sub-documents, but I'd
like to avoid this if possible, as Word has known problems with corruption
of master documents. What I had been doing was maintaing each chapter as a
separate document, formatting the bibliographies for each document, then
cutting and pasting each chapter into the final document. Unfortunately,
this all has to be done from scratch each time I update an individual
bibliography.

Thanks!
Stephen

RE: change case

Go to Edit:Preferences:Change case. Enter the words, such as HERS, that you
do not want to change. Endnote will leave them as entered when it applies
change case rules to titles. In my library, if I want to use a style like
APA where the Endnote changes the title to "Title case", I would have to
enter lots of geographic place names, species names, government acronyms,
and a few personal names. For me, it is easier to choose "leave as entered"
and I set up each title as I enter it to appear in title case with the
correct capitalization.

I did figure out how to make HERS be in upper case by using the "change

command. I don't want to have to use "leave titles as entered" because

Uninstalled Endnote 5, installed Endnote 7- Word 2003 thinks 5 is still there-

I'm using Win XP Pro on a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop with Office 2003. I
uninstalled EN5 and installed EN7, but Word 2003 thinks EN5 is still there-
shows EN5 templates and program icons in Word, but the program will not
open- because it has been uninstalled.
The newly installed EN7 works fine on its own.
Has anyone had this problem- and found a solution?

Fonts in Reference Window Fields?

When I copy text from other documents into fields in a Reference
Window using Copy/Paste or Drag and Drop, formatting information
(font, font size and style, font color) gets carried along with the
text (in EndNote 8 for Mac).

I don't remember this happening in earlier versions, and also don't
see why formatting info should be retained in the reference window --
formattin g is supposed to be controlled by subsequent styling.

Is there a way to batch-convert all these entries back to the default
font for the Reference Window -- or to prevent this information from
being transferred in the first place?

Thanks . . .

No Author Reference

Endote (6.0.2) interprets the 1st comma in the title below (which I have placed in the author field) in its
usual manner, and reduces the word 'system' to an initial.

Using Taking Sides in the classroom: Methods, systems, and techniques for the teaching of controversial issues.

Does anyone know of any tricks for overcoming this problem?

Thanks in advance for your trouble,

RE: Uninstalled Endnote 5, installed Endnote 7- Word 2003 thinks 5 is still there-

Hi Bob

I am new to writing on this board but hopefully you will be able to read
this.

I guess you are seeing two toolbars and two version of the EndNote program
in Tools.

The reason for this is probably because the old files for CWYW (Cite While
You Write) that still exist on your computer. You will need to manually
delete them.

Go to 'Templates and Add-ins' in Word to see what Templates you have there.
If you have anything relating to 5 you will see it there probably with 'EN5'
in the file name.

However you cannot remove these files here as every time you restart word
these will re-appear.

The file-path to these files will be shown at the bottom of the 'Templates'
screen when a particular file is highlighted. You then need to go to this
location to remove the files.

Remember you want to keep the 'EN7' files so only remove the EN5 files.

You may be interested to know that my colleague Bengt Edhlund has just
written and published an easy to follow book on perfecting the use of
EndNote in Word called 'Manuscript Writing using EndNote and Word'. For more

Re: Uninstalled Endnote 5, installed Endnote 7- Word 2003 thinks 5 is still there-

I had this problem with EN6 (which I wanted to keep) and the EN8 demo
(which I had uninstalled). I had tried--over and over--to deselect the
add-in from Word, but that didn't work, and I had to move a file.... I
wish I could give you the specifics on the file, but I'm pretty
clueless. The Endnotes tech folks, who have ALWAYS been there for me,
sent the instructions when I emailed.

For all the problems Endnotes has, I have to say, the tech support has
always been wonderful. I started with 1.0 when it was just Niles, and I
worried that growth and acquisitions would dilute the Endnotes service,
but it's still responsive, helpful, and kind. (Of course, I haven't
made the jump past EN6, either, and maybe I have easier problems to solve!)

In Word, click on Tools>Templates and Addins.

If you can see EndNote 5 files (in addition to the EndNote 7 files), uncheck
the EndNote 5 files. The EndNote 7 files should be checked.

It would be a good idea to use Windows Explorer or My Computer to make sure
that these EndNote 5 files are no longer in your Word Startup folder or your
EndNote folder.

RE: Multiple bibliographies within a document?

From a recent Woody's Watch (whole article)
http://www.woodyswatch.com/office/archtemplate.asp?v10-n01 although he
didn't specify which versions- I expect post XP/2002 versions.

"Another tool that has improved enormously over the years is Master
Documents in Word. Even the mention of this feature can make long-time
Word users curl up in a ball and cry. The idea was that you had a
Master Document that linked to separate sub-documents to make one
continuous document with consistent formatting, pagination, table of
contents etc (like chapters coming together to make a complete book).
In practice Master Documents was, for some time, a great way to crash
and lose data in more than one file at once. Recent versions of Word
have a working version of MD's once it was totally re-written and
Microsoft staff forced to use it themselves. To this day we still get
enquiries from readers who want to know of Master Documents is 'safe' -
one bitten, twice shy."
