OSS 4.0

Hi All.
Today I have installed Ubuntu 7.04 with kernel 2.6.20.

I have installed the OSS 4.0 (build 1002) last available.
Linrad working ok but there is a problem.
Without no input to the Delta44, to video there is a series of spurious each 3000 Hz (12.000,15.000,18.000 etc.)

These spurious there is not with the Alsa driver or with Windows on the same hardware.

A help?

Re: OSS 4.0

Hi Pierre.

Also here, i have not stayed able to setup (U) with 02.29 and OSS 4.0.
Linrad exit with "*** stack smashing detected ***: ./xlinrad terminated".

I have also tried uselessly the oss 4.0 (999).

?????
I tried Ubuntu 7.04 with kernel 2.6.20 a few days ago, and today
I installed oss from oss-linux-v4.0-1002-i386.tar.bz2 under this
distribution. Everything looks absolutely normal. I only tried
under X11, but I do not expect svgalib to behave differently.

Have you had a look at "I=Soundcard test mode" ? Presumably
there are pulses with a repetition rate of 3 kHz. Maybe the shape
of these pulses would give a hint.

You did not by any chance forget to run ./configure and make xlinrad
after installing oss?

Re: OSS 4.0

Hi Leif, Pierre.
I have not resolved yet.
The problem seems present only with the drivers of the Delta44.
I have installed same version of OSS and Ubuntu with other 2 cards audio without Delta44 and it works all OK
also the audio setup "U option" with 02.29.
When you install the envy24 for the Delta44 the spurious ones and the noise they appear it also raises him
without input and not work the setup (U option).
With the version of Ubuntu 6.06 and 6.10 didn't happen.
I will continue with the tests !!!

The tests I made with exactly the same softwares was with a
Delta 44 on a Pentium IV 2.666 GHz. I see no anomalities.

You say the "U option does not work. Please have a look
at soundboard_init.log. This file should give a hint about
where the setup goes wrong.

I do not expect the device to run properly in case the
U option does not run properly. Surely you can edit the
parameter file manually, but if the U option fails something
is wrong.

By the way, I have been using OSS 4.0 for quite some time now
under Debian Etch.

Linrad-02.30 replaces 02-29.

Hello All,

Linrad-02.29 is now replaced by 02-30. I made a stupid mistake
(ss[1024] was changed to ss[256] in lsetad.c. I forgot that three
lines of text are stored in ss when the big size was no longer
needed for the SDR_14/IQ setup.

When Linrad-02.29 is run on a computer that have different
characteristics for RDONLY, RDWR and WRONLY on the same
device number, a segfault will happen if there are more than
85 columns on the screen (more than 764 pixels with the
smallest font.) This is not common however.

If only two modes are different, and this is quite common
if you have more than one soundcard, the maximum number
of characters allowed will be 128 which means that screens
with up to 1024 pixels are safe.

                        ---- o ----

The code was pretty old and in Linrad-02.30 this kind of
problem does not exist. Lines are not allowed to become
more than 80 characters wide regardless of the screen
size.

If your Linrad-02.29 runs ok there is no need to upgrade.
Changes only affect the setup procedure, "U" in the main
menu.

Linrad-02.30 short-lived.

Hi All,

I have received bug reports on Linrad-02.30 that will
make me upload 02-31 (and remove 02-30) pretty soon.

1) Calibration. The zero point of the main spectrum will
grow in proportion to the number of points behind each
pixel. This does not matter at all for the processing, but
it may be inconvenient.

The reason is that I have changed the way the waterfall
is computed when fft2 is not enabled. There is a difference
only when fft1 is big enough to have more than one bin
behind each pixel on the screen. Old versions use the
average power from all pixels, but 02-29 and onwards use
the strongest bin within each group. This way the sensitivity
of the waterfall is improved by up to 6 dB depending on
averaging.

When I changed the scale factor for the waterfall to no longer
divide by the number of bins that will be summed, I unintendedly
changed the zero point for the main spectrum the same way and
therefore the main spectrum will shift vertically when
the number of bins behind each pixel is changed.

The correction to this error is trivial and will be done
in 02-31.

2) This is a serious error. In case the parameters for fft1
are selected in a way that causes a long processing time for

Re: Linrad-02.31

Hi Leif.
The vers. 02-31 has resolved the problem of delay in the keyboard input and also correct level of the
noise-floor in db-bluscale; ok in Win/svga/ X11.
I have found a problem in on-line modify parameters in Win/svga/ X11
During normal operation "A" and after have pressed "X" they could be varied only the parameters of the first
panel. After the 1st enter-key return directly in normal operation "A".
Thank you for the hard job.

Linrad-02.31 & users_hwaredriver

Hi All.
In linrad 02-31 if use users_hwaredriver and Icom-275 selections need
to correct an error:

Modify the line 601 :

 int serport_baudrate=9600;

or insert an new line 626

 serport_baudrate=9600;

good fun.
