Am I wasting my time ?

Hi All

Before I spend any further time researching I wonder if anyone here can
offer a spot of advice please.

I have an HP C3600 workstation running HP-UX at present.

Am I likely to have any success running Linrad on this machine as is?

Am I likely to have any success putting an alternate OS ( Linux ) on
this machine?

Just point me in the right direction please before I embark on the
journey...

I'm not a UNIX man, I can just about get by...

TIA

Paul

Linrad on a Debian System ??

Hello all,

after big problems with Suse 10.0 I installed Debian (Knoppix 4.0.1 + a lot of
Add-Ons) on my computer. Next I wanted to reinstall Linrad (1.34). But here I
failed.

NASM compiles OK
SVGALIB seems to install OK
Linrad stops while ./configure like this:

configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.

I see there that some libraries are not ANSI C conform (???)

Anybody here got Linrad on a Debian ("Woody") system running ??

What does config.log say?

I am using Debian Unstable (Sid), but Stable (Sarge) should work. W3SZ
has a linrad CD based off of Knoppix that may work well.

Have you done a HD install? Did you run:
apt-get update
apt-get upgade

lir01-35 ; Re: [linrad] Re: Linrad on a Debian System ??

Sirs!

Leif has uploaded a lir01-35 version that seems to work on new distro's.
I have not tried it yet, but I have lir01-34 working with Knoppix 4.0.2
after a HD-install (sudo knoppix-installer). See Rein's User Data Bank:

http://www.nitehawk.com/linrad_dat/

                                      Good luck / 73, "Zaba" OH1ZAA/2

P.S. Leif's 01-35 should also take care of the svgalib_helper related
to svgalib 1.9.23 if everything is in the right sub-directories

Re: Linrad on a Debian System ??

HI,

I have Linrad running on 4 Debian systems at the moment, each with unique
hardware.

I have not seen that error message.

But each of my systems is 'Sarge'. I have used kernels from 2.4.x thru
2.6.11 IIRK.

Sarge is now 'stable' and complete. Why not upgrade to Sarge?

I suspect that the message means that you don't have the gcc compiler
installed.

I am not at my Linux machine, but I think

apt-get update
apt-get install gcc

should take care of it if I am correct.

Roger

lir01-35

... installs here fine under SUSE 9.3 but I still have a problem not related
to 01-35 or 01-34 ...

When I set up the soundcard I get two devices
00: /dev/dsp 1000-192000 Hz 4 Chan. 16 bit RDONLY
01: /dev/dsp0 1000-192000 Hz 4 Chan. 16 bit RDONLY

First question: Where can I disable direct connection from input to output
(using KMix to the time being here)

After that I get a message 'no device found for 8/16 bit output while input
is open'

When I than hit return I get an

INTERNAL ERROR: 1139 (errno=2)
routine:set_analog.io file:setad.c
No device found for analog output.

So it seems the problem is I can't set up the soundcard for Read & Write? I
could do this before, no idea what I changed ...

Any help is greatly appreciated ...

Thanks!

Carsten, DL6LAU
