Hello,

I am trying to use eric3 (3.4.1) under suse linux for the first time. I
must say I am also a python novice, however by no means a programming
novice.
After installing eric3 and all required components successfully, I fired
up the IDE and created a project with a simple python file. Now I find
myself looking at the pretty GUI, but unable to get any further benefit.
When I hit the run/debug buttons, I get a dialog with 2 entry fields
(command line argument & working dir), but no matter what I enter,
nothing happens. I try to enter something into the "python shell"
window, but there does not seem to be any way to execute python
statements (what is the shell window there for anyway?).

I can execute the script from the command line ok. Can anyone advise? I
realise there are no docs, but an IDE should be accessible intuitively -
so I must be missing something.

thanks,
Christian

eric3 autocompletion problem

Hello,

Hitting Ctrl-Space at the end of a line starting with "x." yields a
complete lockup of the IDE, with kill -9 as the only escape. Is eric
3.4.1 usable at all? Is there a better version?

I also wonder how autocompletion works. The scripts mentioned in the
README file (Tools/xyz.py) do not exist, and it is not clear to me what
the sip files and api files mentioned there are all about. Furthermore,
how do I get autocompletion for arbitrary library code that I may be
using in my project?

thanks,
Christian

That's a QScintilla bug that is fixed in current snapshots. QScintilla v1.3
will be released in the netx week.

Error with eric3 snapshot 20040418

Hi all,

I tried to run Eric3 snapshot 20040418 under debian sid,
as I didn't found any debian package I just ran the install.py
script. Eric3 was installed successfully but I guess I missed
a dependency or something because I've got this error when I
try to run eric3 :

That's a bug in the snapshot. If you install the latest QScintilla
snapshot, everything is ok. Alternatively you may try the last formal
release (3.4.1) or the upcoming snapshot (sometime this week).

That's a 'bug' in the readme. They are available via the contributions
page of the eric3 site. You'll find ready built API files for PyQt as
well.

Try the gen_python_api.py script.

Did you select "Run project" or "Run script". The first command will run
the project's main script (you have to configure this in the project's
properties), the later will run the current script (i.e. the one, that
has the focus).

Same logic for the other "... project" and "... script" commands.

That is exactly what it is supposed to do, execute python statements. And
that's what it does over here. Sorry.
