ICSM'10: Call for Participation

  26th IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance
  September 12-18, 2010 Timisoara, Romania
  http://icsm2010.upt.ro

ICSM is the premier international event in software maintenance. It is the place
where participants from academia, government, and industry share ideas and
experiences for solving critical software maintenance problems.

The conference program includes 36 research papers in the technical track, 9
industrial papers, 18 early research papers, and 11 presentations from recent
PhD dissertations:
http://icsm2010.upt.ro/events/program

This year's registration fees are more affordable than ever before in
the history of ICSM: 95 EUR for a student member, and 300 EUR for a member.

After many years of absence, ICSM will have tutorials, and the prices for these
are again ridiculously low (10 EUR / student ; 20 EUR / others).

Hotels can be booked very easily, directly during the registration
process. Prices are very affordable, and hotels are all close to the venue.

To take advantage of these incredibly low prices, you need to register before
the early registration deadline (Aug 16th).

Perl Tools For Refactoring.

I need to refactor a Perl script that is written in a really basic style-- all in one huge local block.

Are there any tools for Perl that will help me rename variables, add methods, and other basic factors
without having to do them all by hand?

Thanks
Glen

Weee, this might be spam, isn't it?

Re: Hot Model WallPaper 8:07:02 AM8/10/2010

I see a lot of commonality here. I say we extract some methods, and push the common methods up into some newly
created superclasses.

Re: Perl Tools For Refactoring.

The EPIC plugin for Eclipse has some support. I usually resort to lower tech
solutions such as find/replace in files and cut-and-paste, combined with
compiling the code and running the tests frequently.

Interesting!

I tried it out briefly. It has Extract Method. Its reasonable,
although it could still use some improvement. For instance:

sub foo
{
	print "This is a test";
	print "This is another test.";
}

foo;

when Extract Method was applied to the two print lines, I got:

sub foo
{
	my () = test ();
	my () = anotherTest ();
}
sub anotherTest
{
	print "This is another test.";
	return ();

Re: Perl Tools For Refactoring.

It has been almost two years since I tried it. I remember being marginally
impressed, but I went back to using emacs in short order. I'm not sure what
changes or improvements they have made since then. Could be that the plugin
configuration was borked in the version you tried (Tends to happen in
Eclipse, IME, because the plugin architecture is not very smart about
versioning.)

Hi Adam,

My apologies. I've set the member
alterationx79 <at> stag.jp<alterationx79%40stag.jp> to
"no email" in the off-case that this is a legitimate member, and have sent
an email to that address. I've not deleted them yet. This is a new member,
perhaps in the system for a week. Probably a spammer but who am I to
prejudge. :-)

If you continue to get this junk, please email me directly and I'll remove
the member completely.

Jeff
