self extracting install

Hi,
I have just downloaded the latest hplip driver and tried to install it.
Everything seemed to go well untill we hit issues of rebuilding
essential libraries or something. We newbies who are simply trying to
get our systems up and running, haven't got into all those things like
perl and whatever yet. The site talks about using regular tarballs and
all. Huh???
Anyway, I did find that the equivalent printer was a dj3600, which I
assume means a desk jet 3600. There wasn't one that came with Ubuntu, so
I used the highest 3650 and my printer is working.
I thought I'd give you feedback about the automatic install though. The
library build near the end of the install errors with error 100,
whatever that is.
Perhaps a "dumbed down" version of the installer that didn't ask so many
questions wouldn't have errored, because I was guessing at my answers
most of the time.

HPLIP download

I'm having trouble downloading the HPLIP driver for my new HP Deskjet F380. After encountering problems
with the automated download/install, I attempted the manual download and am unable to get past Yast
initializing... I get the following message:

 ┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────┐

I have SuseLinux 10.0. Can you help me get this printer working, or will I have to do what was suggested by the
friend who replaced Windows with Linux on this computer and return the HP Deskjet F380 and get something
that will work with Linux?

Re LJ P2015n and Linux

Hi

According to HP's documentation the LJ P2015n is not supported under
Linux using the embedded networking. Linux support is available when
using the external Jetdirect card.

I would like to know if your testing was done using the external
jetdirect or the internal jetdirect!

I'm also trying to understand what would make one jetdirect card Linux
compatible and another not, when both jetdirects support IP printing. Is
there some else other than IP that Linux requires?

I would appreciate any information regarding network printing
requirement for Linux.

Regards

Maurizio Bazan

Problems with Deskjet d4160

Using Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake)

Installed hplip-1.7.1 using the automated download (hplip-1.7.1.run).
First install attempt failed due to repository problem. I fixed that and
installed again. Got some error messages regarding removal of previous
install but it continued saying the new install should overwrite the
previous one. Everything went well from there until the very end where i
recieved error messages about not being able to open device when running
hp-setup, even though HP-setup ran anyway.

I then tried the manual install. It went well without error until, once
again, running hp-setup.

Here is the end of the terminal log from the manual install (i'm
attaching the terminal log from auto install as an attachment since it
is rather large):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The above are the same errors reported at the end of the auto install as
well.

Finally, aside from printing rather slow it seems to work ok until the
second print job where i got the "chrismas tree" effect.

I found this effect mentioned in the hplip-help list archive with links
on patching hplip-1.7.1 and followed the links to download the patch.
(Oh, i'm using firefox 1.5 if that matters)
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=31571521&forum_id=48102

Then this link: You can get the patch at the following -
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=149981

When clicking the download link it takes me to a page that says my
download should begin shortly but if it doesn't use "This direct link"
http://superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/hplip/hplip-1.7.1-1.patch

And all that does is take me to a page with what looks like code.
Anyway, here is all i see after clciking the above link:

     if(err)
     {
         return err;
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I read instructions for applying the patch but shouldn't i have a downloaded file to use??

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance, i am,
Sincerely,

hplip 1.71 doent work with hp oj 4355

Hello,

I've bought today new HP OfficeJet 4355 MFP. Unfourtunally it doesnt work with hplib.

this is my lsusb:
[root <at> localhost lepres]# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 017: ID 03f0:5411 Hewlett-Packard
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 1241:1177 Belkin F8E842-DL Mouse
Bus 001 Device 014: ID 1131:1001 Integrated System Solution Corp. KY-BT100 Bluetooth Adapter
Bus 001 Device 013: ID 05e3:0760 Genesys Logic, Inc. Card Reader
Bus 001 Device 012: ID 06a3:7084 Saitek PLC
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I start hp-setup, choose USB and got a message "No Device found, Please make sure your printer is properly connected and powered on".  Sure, my printer is connected and powered on.

When I try to "Manyally find" print, i get same message.

Only tool found my printer is sane-find-scanner:

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [HP], product=0x5411 [Officejet 4300 series]) at libusb:001:017
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

This printer perfectly works only as printer via cups usb backend with Device URI: usb://HP/Officejet%204300%20series?serial=CN66JFC03Z04GR

hp: and hpfax: backends also doen't works: in list of valid backend they are only as:
hp:/no_device_found

And the last one command i run was directly run backend as:
/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
unable to receive ProbeDevicesResult: Connection reset by peer

All is very terrible for me. I really have to scan many documents, but my new scanner does'n works. What i have to do?

hpiod crashes on scanimage

Hi,

yesterday I bought a Deskjet F380 and therefore installed hplip/1.7.1.
Although the installation went anything but smooth (problems with
variable declarations mixed with normal code, and a missing
strcasestr, and lots of unexpected dependencies), it finally
succeeded. But: running scanimage -L will crash hpiod with:

Anybody has any idea what is happening here? This is:

SuSE 7.3 (yes, I know. But this is a really old and really slow
machine, and upgrading SuSE is really painful...)
python 2.4.3
libusb 0.1.12
sane 1.0.18
hplip 1.7.1
cups 1.3svn-r6014
gs 8.15.3-esp
xsane 0.992

As I've never installed a Scanner under Linux before (never mind
hplip) I could use some help here.

Thanks

Sven

Print Queue Setup Failed - Gentoo

I am running:

hplip 1.71.

cups 1.27

kernel 2.6.19

HP Photosmart C7180

On the second to last screen on the hp-setup utility, the following message pops up:  “Printer Queue Setup Failed:  Please restart cups”.

I noticed here: http://hplip.sourceforge.net/howtos/known.html

It says this is a known issue with SUSE users.   The workaround is to install cups 1.27.    I upgraded from 1.26 to 1.27 to resolve this issue but I still get it.

Does anyone else know how to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance,

J
