Strange account requests

With the upcoming elections, I find it a tad strange that in the last 2 days we
have had account requests, almost one after the other, from (will not include
the last names, just the initial):

AAaron B.
Aaron T.
Aaron C.
Aaron W.
Aaron D.
Aaron O.

All of them soliciting an account for "voting in the general elections". In
fact there have been requests like that one for some time, and personally I had
not granted them because getting a PEAR account just to vote does not seem to
me good enough (but that is just me).

This series of requests is either a very fortituous coincidence or some attempt
at spamming the account creating system.

I am disclosing this to all PEAR devs, so we all are aware of this possible
problem.

Cheers.

Re: [PEPr] Comment on Math::Math_Combinatorics

Just as a reference. For combinations and permutations there exist some other
variations, for example the "Complete Permutation" (or Derangement), and such
other weirdness.

See:

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Derangement.html

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/CircularPermutation.html

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/BinomialCoefficient.html
... etc.

Caveat: I had not looked in detail at your package. My net connection right now
is quite flaky.

Cheers.

Hi Jesus,

We have a new auto-registration system for voting in general elections
(not like the ones open now for PEAR Group/president). These accounts
only require a valid email address.

For most elections, these users will not be able to vote, as pear.dev

Bug in PEAR manual

I am not sure where I am supposed to report that bug, can someone
please point me the right place ?

Games_Chess documentation is under "Structures" section of PEAR manual
(chapter 58) wich I believe is not the right place for it.

regards,
Igor.

It's there because the package is in the Structures category:
http://pear.php.net/packages.php?catpid=27&catname=Structures

Re: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: elections for PEAR Group

Hi everyone,

Greg Beaver has encouraged me to return from my self-imposed
expatriation to run for election as a PEAR Group member. I am only
too happy to accept his invitation. :-)

Here's a short summary of projects I was the original lead on, or
still maintain as lead:

DB_Table
: <http://pear.php.net/DB_Table>
: now led by Mark Wiesemann and David Morse

Text_Wiki
: <http://pear.php.net/Text_Wiki>
: now led by Justin Patrin

Savant template system
: <http://phpsavant.com>

Solar PHP5 Framework
: <http://solarphp.com>

I am also one of the founding contributors to the Zend framework
(although I no longer contribute code, only critique ;-).

I believe that the sources of PEAR greatness have less to do with the
code in the repository, and more to do with PEAR standards and
techniques:

Hi Igor,

Games_Chess does not provide any visual representation of a chess board,
or any other thing but a class that can validate the rules of chess,
store move orders, and output PGN/FEN format stuff. Since it's sort of
an abstract class, there was no category at the time, I put it under
structures. It might make sense to create a "Games" category, I suppose
the new PEAR Group would have to take up that question once the election
concludes ;).

Do you play?

:)
Greg
