There were just general ideas :)

My point is that HTML_Progress should make it easy to add a new
implementation of a progress indicator. You don't have to implement what i
said. If the package is called HTML_Progress i would understand it as
giving me the possibility to have a progress indicator. In the current state
it gives me only an horizontal bar. So i think it would be stupid to end up
in a couple of months with HTML_Progress_XYZ, when this new indicator should
be part of HTML_Progress.

I see something like

Progress
  |
  |- Bar
     |
     |- Horizontal
     |
     |- Vertical
  |
  |- Circle
     |
     |- Sphere

RE: pear upgrade-all problems

Have you tried a

pear -vvv upgrade-all to see what happens ?

It may not work as i see you already have verbose set to 1, but asking for
more verbosity may be able to show something.

Description:
------------
with my recent problem (notice error) on File_Passwd package detected
in version 0.9, i've asked help and found the solution.

But it was already done 5 month ago, and bugfix is already commited
into CVS PEAR.

So a re-releasing PEAR package is requires !

I agree about the error codes being mandatory, it would be way easier to
integrate into apps. As you mention it should be documented with examples.

One thing though is that august is beginning, traditionally a month of
vacation, so it may do well to wait until the end of august, or untils
enough comments are made on the RFC.

RE: pear upgrade-all problems

I had similar problem before. After I remove the 'apd' package, it is
OK.

I conclude it might be some unstable package that stops 'upgrade-all'

Actually we have already talked about this.
We have a similar situation with LiveUser that has an ML graciously
provided my Markus but where I can see other packages also needing such
lists.

I think it is a good idea and we just need to build the infrastructure.

However today a single announce mailinglist is sufficient.

#21611 [Opn]: Problem with pear cli and release numbers

 ID:               21611
 Updated by:       et <at> php.net
 Reported By: jan at horde dot org
 Status:           Open
 Bug Type:         PEAR related
-Operating System: Linux
+Operating System: Any
 PHP Version:      4CVS-2003-01-13 (stable)

 New Comment:

version_compare does handle suffixes. (see example below) However, p1
is not a valid suffix for this function. So, solutions would be imo:
A) use the pl suffix and document this
B) make version_compare handle pl and p equally

Example script:
<?php
$version[] = "4.0.1pl2";
$version[] = "4.0.1pl1";
$version[] = "4.0.1b";
$version[] = "4.0.1a";
$version[] = "4.0.1p1";
$version[] = "4.0.1";
printf("%10s | %10s | %10s\n", "Version 1", "Version 2", "New Vers.");
print str_repeat('-',36)."\n";
for ($i = 0, $s = count($version); $i < $s; $i++ ) {
    for ($j = $i; $j < $s; $j++) {
        printf("%10s | %10s | ",$version[$i],$version[$j]);
        $c = version_compare($version[$i], $version[$j]);
