Re: no action specified.

thanks didn't know about that flag. I think i have it going, I must of
put an s instead of a z in /synchronize yesterday. I stopped fooling
with it and came back to it later and it worked ok.

And what happens if you run it with /debug flag?

Why don't you go to http://wpkg.org and type "printer" in the search engine on

[Bug 50] New: Computer Name Variable

Please reply using this URL only: http://bugs.wpkg.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50

           Summary: Computer Name Variable
           Product: WPKG installer
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: WPKG installer
        AssignedTo: mangoo <at> mch.one.pl
        ReportedBy: leon.hedding <at> ict.om.org
         QAContact: wpkg-users <at> lists.sourceforge.net

I currently have a vbscript that I use to run wpkg. I would be very much
interested in switching and using some of the features that are in the wpkg
installer (mainly the encrypted password feature), but there is one limitation
that is my stumbling block that I describe below.

I currently log the installation status information to a text file on a central
server. Each computer has its own log file on the server for sanity purposes.
In my vbscript I can specify the environmental variable %COMPUTERNAME% and use
this for the log file name. The script variables in the wpkg installer do not
appear to work that way. I really do not know what purpose they serve. I do
not know if this is bug, feature request or if the script variable feature just
needs more documentation.

I think what you're talking about is that most variables you normally see when
you start cmd.exe, are not existing for you.

This is how it works, because at that stage, the environment (with variables) is
not initialized.
You can verify it when you start cmd.exe as "execute before" (WPKG installer's
task), with GUI visible, and then, type "set" to see all variables. Then,
compare it to variables displayed by "set", when cmd.exe is started from Menu
start -> Run... -> cmd.exe.

I think there is no easy way to to what you ask for, and therefore, I close this
bug as WONTFIX.

As a substitute to %COMPUTERNAME% variable, you could parse the output of
"hostname" command.

Error: "Zombie found" and otther problems

Zombie found: package installed but not in packages database.

Hey , I'm trying to understand what's happening....seems like thre is
something behind the scenes. I think I'm I'm getting this message
because I edited out an installed package from packages.xml. But
what's worse is that wpkg insists that a package IS installed that is
NOT installed no mater if I use 'uninstall', 'registry' or 'file' as
the check type. Actually I uninstalled it manually on the client in
the process of testing. Guess that wasn't the right thing to do...
Is there a listing of installed programs on the client that I can
edit? If so, what good is the check type if that is getting checked
first? BTW, can wpkg uninstall or upgrade packages that have not been
installed by wpkg?
  Little help?

Thank you!
Peter

WPKG keeps its local "database" of installed packages in
C:\windows\system32\wpkg.xml.

The "zombie found" message merely means that a package is in the file
above, but it's not in any packages XML file on the server... And hence
it's a zombie.

I don't think one can run services/programs like that on modern NT
systems (2000, XP etc.)...

You can use WPKG installer, it has many nice features.
