[OOo-H] vowels

Shalom all

I ran some more tests on transferring material with vowels to openoffice,
running Windows xp.

Bar-Ilan's project ha-shut has an export facility. If defined as 'rtf' the
vowels
are fouled up. If the export facility is defined as 'aher' (i.e. no specific
word
processor) then it works.

I haven't yet succeeded with any of the other jewish database programs
When/if I do, I'll notify the list

Re: [OOo-H] vowels

Hi Chaim,
Thank-you for posting these results to the list. They are a very important
contribution, especially if we can accumulate a list of Hebrew software
and directions for exporting from each one to OpenOffice.

Re: [OOo-H]

Hi Ury,

Open an terminal from X11. Go to the OpenOffice.org installation directory,
then go to the directory beneath it called "program".
From the command line, run:
./spadmin
This will run a program which, among another things, allows to you add
truetype fonts. You specify the directory where the fonts are located, and
choose the fonts you want to install.

[OOo-H] 2 questions

Shalom

Open office has an option to add a line across the page. I can't find an
option
to erase it. Can anybody help?

I encountered a problem with the automatic corrections. I like the function
and
generally leave it, but it doesn't work well with mixed text Hebrew and
English.

I was writing in Hebrew about the East End of London. I added "East End" in
English. The corrector changed the capital 'E' to small. I tried other
proper nouns
with the same result. My theory is that in a mixed text, the corrector
thinks from
right to left and automatically corrects a capital which in its opinion is
at the end
of the word.

Can anybody correct the problem, or should I just neutralize the feature
when
using mixed text?

in כלים--אפשרויות --- אפשרויות שפה do you have the option "CTL" enabled?
If so, just click on the RTL button on the toolbar to change to
right-to-left.

[OOo-H] Shamless self plug- Hebrew OpenOffice book

I am happy to announce that my book about OOo writer has just been
published:
http://tinyurl.com/2y4b9

It is meant for beginners, and is about the Windows version, but it
obviously works with the Linux version as well.

160 page, list price is 39NIS.

The TOC + first chapter are available for download (PDF).

And before you complain- yes, I know you need IE in order to buy online
from the publisher. Yet another battle that I lost :-(

[OOo-H] For open office decision makers

Shalom all

I noticed a difference between Open Office and Word.

When I return to revise a file, my corrections are made within
a specific environment. In Word, my corrections automatically
acquire the language and font size of the closest letters.

In Open Office, my corrections are the same font size, but if I
was working in English and start correcting Hebrew, I have to
change the language myself.

Is this feature intentional and if so why?

Do people prefer the Word or the Open Office approach?

Personally, I prefer the Open Office approach.
This way, the language can't change "on it's own" in a document that
contains both Hebrew and English.
