Re: Re: 3D/4D with Base, or is there something else?

OK, I ended up staying up till 3 in the morning thinking about the
problem. This e-mail kind of queued me into where I need to go and I
think I finally understood relational databases, and how this relates
to my problem.

OLAP is for analysis of data, not inputing it, though I'd really love
to be able to do something like "inverse-OLAP" putting in the data, in
a way that makes sense, or in the same way we view it. Maybe if I'm
ever lacking in a project to complete I'll work on doing something
like that. Until then, i'll make do.

So I have developed a design for a relational database that meets my
needs. I found that with a relational database (after I figured out
what I was doing) I could add some of the extra info into the database
that would have seemed slightly out of place in my cube design, though
it is very easy to see how a cube still applies to alot of the data.
In the end, my design is a 12-14 table database (there are still a few
questions on how I want to deal with a category of information). It's
still got 4 dimensions, but I added several tables to further
categorize and deliminate some info on all my info. Once I've finished
putting it in digital form, I'll post a link to my desing, and a link
to the final interface as I will want help populating it.

My main table consists of a lists of IDs from 5 other tables
essentially creating the "Array" that was mentioned.

The purpose of this database? to create a central storage place easily
accessible to more than just me for all of the toolkit API calls for a
specific feature(widget) on a platform. So my 4 'dimensions', and
subsequently the 4 main tables linked into my main reference

I dont' know about other people, but I ignore all answered questions
at OOoForums, unless the subject line looks _very_ interesting. Your
"replying to yourself" there basically backfired on you.

 "Microsoft Producer" for OO Impress.

a) If a programmer things it is something "interesting" to do, then yes.

b) If there is a large enough demand for it, _and_ it fits into SUN's
long term plans, then yes.

Please note that using those "applications" doesn't help in OOo1.x, but
it will work in OOo2.0 (as mentioned by myself several times). So please
read my comment about "the way to go" (as quoted above) as a description
of the next OOo release. The current version has definitely a defect here.

By using the swriter, scalc etc. applications for system registration of
file type (extensions on Windows, MimeTypes on Linux) most of the
problems mentioned here will go away. For the remaining problems I agree
with Lars that we need some data about "normal" users, otherwise our
discussion will go around in circles (IMHO it already does).

XML/Word-processing Patent in NZ

"In the New Zealand Herald, Adam Gifford has written an article blasting Microsoft for burying the New
Zealand Intellectual Property Office in paperwork. One example is Patent 525484, accepted by the office
and now open for objections until the end of May, which says Microsoft invented and owns the process
whereby a word-processing document stored in a single XML file may be manipulated by applications that
understand XML."

Re: Dual head presentation ability for Impress

This sounds like it is the ability to show the same presentation in two
windows at the same time. I agree that it could be useful to have that
choice.

Re: XML/Word-processing Patent in NZ

Make sure your MEP knows to put pressure on the EC to deal with the CIID.
It will come up to vote in the EP, but your representatives MUST attend
AND vote no. An abstention counts as a yes vote.
 	http://wwwdb.europarl.eu.int/ep6/owa/p_meps2.repartition?ilg=EN

Parallel, it would be good to get the item overturned on grounds that the
EC violated the decision making laws. The EC claims that the CIID was
passed as an A-item. However, a proposal cannot be an A-item if members
object, which they did. Thus, the CIID cannot have been a valid A-item.
