[infrastructure-dev] access to the pootle server

Hi infra structure project,

I am very active in the Apache OpenOffice project and I would like to
become more active in the infra structure project as well.

OpenOffice is a huge project and need often support from the infra
structure team. I think it would be good if we have more project members
from AOO who can help here. For example at the moment it would be good
to have more people with direct access to the pootle server and the
command line tools.

I am currently evaluating in a VM how the AOO related tooling works and
it would be very good if somebody could support me afterwards to setup
the AOO pootle with the appropriate and correct data that we can start.

Translation is a very critical and important part for the long term
success of AOO. And a strong part where we always had a good and vibrant
community in the past. I would like to do everything that translation
for Apache projects will be easy and smooth and that we can build a
huger translation community.

Regards

Juergen

[infrastructure-dev] new Apache mailing list to replace this list

Please read this note in its entirety. It contains important information related to this mailing list, its migration to the Apache Software Foundation, and the steps you must take to ensure continuous access to the list.

Background

As you may have heard, Oracle contributed the OpenOffice.org (OOo) code to Apache in June. All new projects at Apache start in the "Incubator", a special part of Apache where new projects ("Podlings") and their communities are given special attention by Apache "mentors" as they learn about Apache, ensure that the source code meets Apache's license requirements, and work toward their initial Apache release.

In parallel with the coding efforts needed before we can publish Apache OpenOffice.org 3.4.0, the Apache OpenOffice.org community, working with the Apache Infrastructure team, is migrating the many legacy OOo websites and other online services formerly hosted by Sun/Oracle onto Apache servers. This has been a huge effort and we are showing good progress in many areas.

You can read more about the current status of the migration effort on this wiki page:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/OpenOffice.org+Migration+Status

Additional relevant information is published in our project blog at:  http://blogs.apache.org/OOO/

Resubscribing

Among the services hosted by Oracle on the legacy OOo servers are over 300 mailing lists, including the dev <at> infrastructure.openoffice.org mailing list you are reading now.  In order to participate in Apache OpenOffice.org through a relevant mailing list, you will need to resubscribe to a new list address, per the following instructions:

  1. Send an email to  ooo-dev-subscribe <at> incubator.apache.org. This should be done from the email account where you want to receive the list messages.
  2. This will generate a confirmation email which will be sent to your email address. You will need to reply to the confirmation email in order to complete your subscription to the new list.
  3. To send posts to the new list, you will mail them to the following address: ooo-dev <at> incubator.apache.org
  4. And if you ever want to unsubscribe to the new list, you can do so by sending an email to: ooo-dev-unsubscribe <at> incubator.apache.org

We invite and encourage you to follow the above steps and to participate in Apache OpenOffice.org project. If you have any questions, feel free to post as responses to this note, or send a question to ooo-dev <at> incubator.apache.org (you must be subscribed to post a question).

Notes

  1. We recommend that you do not subscribe via a legacy openoffice.org email address. It is uncertain at this point whether these addresses will be supported in the future.
  2. Archives of the legacy mailing lists are available here: http://openoffice.markmail.org/
  3. Archives of the new mailing lists and other relevant information can be found at: Apache OpenOffice.org mail list information.
  4. If you prefer to access the list via Gmane, please post a request on the new list and we will try to accommodate you.

[infrastructure-dev] possible change to current home page?

Folks--

I would like to replace the current OO.o home page with this one

http://www.openoffice.org/index_new.html

so we could get information out to folks who continue to navigate to the
existing site.

thoughts? comments? I took out the 3.3 availability item

And...we should probably do a quick edit of the News page as well

my first foray into SVN --- wheee! :)

[infrastructure-dev] Apache incubator project created on 6/13/2011

Folks --

Please see

http://incubator.apache.org/projects/openofficeorg.html

so...what does this mean in terms of the current site -- which is HUGE!
-- and whose information esp in terms of "involvement" is now probably
very inaccurate.

Can someone (Stefan??? Louis???) enlighten the rest of us ... please

[infrastructure-dev] Serious Extension site problem (Help!)

Help!

1) Much of the Extensions site is inaccessible, including the "Contact
Us" link, all giving "Connection reset" error. Hence the message here.

2) The new (2011-05-10) Khmer dictionary extension has bad metadata.
Writer's automatic extension update shows a new English dictionary
available, but what downloads is the Khmer dictionary, instead, with bad
results for hyphenation. The existing English dictionary is lost.

[infrastructure-dev] Changes in the OOoWiki backend

There as been a lot of link spam on the OOoWiki the past few days. I'm
tired of chasing it, and I imagine the other Admins are too.... so I've
added some code to the LocalSettings.php file to block all edits and
page creation to new confirmed accounts. After a 4 day "cooling off
period" then the new user accounts will have edit and page creation
rights. Hopefully this is long enough that the Spammers get bored and
leave... but new users come back.

There are very very few new legitimate users compared to spam accounts
anyway... and of those new legitimate users maybe one per month actually
edits a page. The impact of this change on legitimate users should be
very low.

See:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Wiki_maintenance/LocalSettings.php_modifications#Block_new_users_from_editing_or_creating_new_pages_for_4_days
for details of the change.

[infrastructure-dev] naming of site registration

Hi,

To avoid confusion with the product registration I would like to use the
term "sign up" instead. This would be consistent with the phrasing on
the related pages
https://openoffice.org/people/new
https://openoffice.org/people/login

Greetings
Stefan

[infrastructure-dev] Change to the OOoWiki edit toolbar

I tweaked the OOoWiki edit toolbar to add some more buttons to the
standard Edit Toolbar (in the basic text editor view, not the rich text
editor).

You can see the changes simply by editing a Wiki page (your browser may
have cached the edit page, so if you don't see the new toolbar buttons,
clear your cache and reload).

The buttons (only from Comment to Insert Table... the original buttons
are fixed) can be sorted in a more logical order if anyone feels that
they are out of place - just let me know here on the mailing list.

I hope this change makes it a little easier for everyone to use the OOoWiki.

[infrastructure-dev] Re: [website-dev] Easy way to go to Bugzilla

Hi there!

>Congratulations for new infrastructure!
thanks

>May I post an RFE(request for enhancement) to this list?
>:)

>Why doesn't "http://www.openoffice.org/" have "Bugzilla" tab while
>"http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/" has the tab?

one is the bugzilla theme and the other is the general ooo theme

Well I suggested that too in the migration team to have bugzilla tab
also on the general theme but others where thinking that this would be
too confusing to non-tech users.

>Can we add the Bugzilla tab to "http://www.openoffice.org/";

Well we could discuss on this list if we want that. So far I have heard
only arguments against it.

>"http://ja.openoffice.org/" and other project home pages?

your ja project might have other opinions and you can add it there if
you like
see below

>On "My Page" we used to have "My Tools" such as "Find Issue", "File
>Issue", "My Issue".
>Can we have them?

yes you can.

New OpenOffice.org LayoutCustomization features (including an easy
method to localize the header) are currently document here:

http://kenai.com/projects/ooo-migration/pages/LayoutCustomizationforOOo
OnKenai

http://kenai.com/projects/ooo-migration/pages/LayoutCustomizationforOOo
OnKenai#Localization

The hu project has similar needs and is using these new features see
http://hu.openoffice.org

You can also add content to the sidebar if you like to
see http://api.openoffice.org/ as an example for that and again also an
example for adding project specific tabs.

Have a look into the __modules subdirectory of the webcontent for those
projects to see how it is done. It´s really easy.

>We would like to have some easy way to go to Bugzilla and to find,
file
>issues.

Well I would go with adding localized content to the sidebar for stuff
like that, but that´s your decision.

>Thanks,

[website-dev] "contains bad link to Orkut" error when updating My Profile Networking

Hi

On "Edit My Profile" I entered a link[1] in "Profile/site URL:" at
"Social Networks & Other Sites" and selected "Orkut" and then clicked
"UPDATE" button, I got a "contains bad link to Orkut" error and it
says "Must match the following format:
http://(www.)?orkut.com/Main#Home.aspx?uid=" although the link[1] I
entered matches the format.
