The confusion of TAB order modified by "Arrange" action and "Navigator dialog" in Presentation

Hi, all,

Presentation's navigator dialog has supported to drag & drop the object to
modify the TAB order. Also the "Arrange" action in context menu can also
modify the TAB order. If user use both "Arrange" and "Navigator" to modify
the TAB order, the TAB order will be confused.

I also found different behavior on order in 3 editors: In Word, if I
arrange the drawing object to back/front, the order in navigator dialog
won't be changed, also the TAB order won't be changed. In Presentation, if
I arrange the drawing object to back/front, the order in navigator dialog
won't be changed, but the TAB order will be changed. In Spreadsheet, if I
arrange the drawing object to back/front, both the order in navigator
dialog and TAB order will be changed.

My question is: What is the correct object order in navigator dialog? The
TAB order or z-index order?

In my opinion, the navigator dialog should only change the TAB order, the
Arrange should only change the Z-Index order and it should NOT change TAB
order. Also I discussed this offline with Malte and he suggested me to
post this topic here. We all think that the Arrange operation should only
impact Z-Order, and the TAB order can only be impacted by Navigator
dialog. Currently, I can't set correct TAB order and Z-Order separately
unless I insert the objects initially with the desired Z-Order and won't
use Arrange operation.

Malte also provided some reference, for your reference.

We thought it would make sense to have a logical tab order which doesn't
necessarily match the z-Order.

New project to be started - anybody interested in branding and visual design?

Hi all,

sorry for cross-posting, but this is the only way I know to reach all
the relevant groups.

Please - DON'T use REPLY ALL when you reply to this mail!

Best follow up would be on discuss <at> openoffice.org, otherwise stay on the
list you are subscribed to (I'll collect the replies) or use the talk
page of the wiki page mentioned below [1]

=== content starts here: ===

OpenOffice.org branding is not as consistent as it should be to have
optimal effects on recognition by the users and the feeling of belonging
together by community members.

To improve this situation, people from different OOo projects (Art,
Website, UX, Marketing...) are going to start a new project for
corporate branding and visual design.

This new project will try to combine the efforts done in several areas
(including the product, our website, marketing, documentation etc.) to
come to and support a general branding design for OpenOffice.org.

Before we start the formal project proposal [2], we want to inform the
relevant groups about our effort and invite you to discuss everything
you'd like to be addressed on that topic.

Please have a look at the wiki page we created:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Design_Artwork_and_Branding_Project_Proposal

If anybody is interested in becoming part of this work, don't hesitate
to add yourself to the list at the bottom of the page [3].

Best regards

Bernhard

XAccessibleText in Impress

Hi!

I was just tinkering with a component for observing user input in
OO.o through the accessibility API in Java. In doing so, I noticed
that the interface for accessible text seems to be implemented
differently for text documents (swriter) compared to presentations
(simpress). In particular, I cannot readily extract the textual
contents of text segments when entering text in presentation
documents, but the XAccessibleText.getText() method only reports what
seems to be coordinates for the entered text. In a XTExtDocument,
however, XAcessibleText.getText() works as intended so that the
actual text is returned.

Is this a known issue, or a feature I've missed?

Re: FYI -- ConsortiumInfo.org - Showing the Accessibility Way: IBM Contributes Project Missouri to the Free Standards Group

FYI, because it's not directly stated in the press released:

IBM used the OpenOffice.org UNO Accessibility API files, made some
modifications and removed everything available in MSAA/IAccessible.

Keyboard merge for open office

Periodically, I check open office Writer to see if I can replace my Word
program.

As a lawyer, two functionalities are critical: (1) a simple keyboard merge
function (similar to Control F9 in Word; (2) a key (similar to F11 in Word)
to move from one keyboard insert point to the next.

Many of my forms (wills, LLC's, corporations) rely on the foregoing two
functions for input. Both Wordperfect and Word accommodate that need. If
Open Office allowed for it, I would probably switch over.

Further Wish list: Wordperfect Table (with formula functions) and
Wordperfect Reveal Codes has it all over Word! Anyway these could be
incorporated into OO Writer? The only reason I use Word rather than
WordPerfect at this time is that the world seems to be "Word" based.
