Hi Peter, this is a well known Problem with the old outdated X11 version of OOo running under Mac OS X 10.5.x. Since we have an aqua native version of OOo 3.x for both PowerPC and Intel we decided to not fix problems in the X11 Port of OOo for Mac any longer. You can download the Aqua native version of OOo from <http://download.openoffice.org/> If you're using one of the more recent browser like Firefox 3.x or 4.x, Safari, Chrome etc the site behind the link will most likely figure out which language and operating system you are running and give you a link for the 3.2.1 PowerPc native version. The latest 3.3.0 isn't QA tested and therefore you can only download the latest release candidate from here <http://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/macosppc/3.3.0rc10_20110119>. You will find lot's of languages in this folder, so you can download whichever you like to. Hope this helps, Eric Am Mon, 4 Apr 2011 14:46:08 +1200 schrieb Peter Hughes: > Dear Sir/Madam, > I have an Apple PowerBook with OS 10.5.8 > and tried recently to install the latest version of Open Office > which was on a 'CD Earth' Disc that I got from Open Office and > got an X11 icon that came up but NO Open Office, and in fact the > computer finally crashed . Has anyone looked at http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=108961 This is a regression from OOo 3.1 but it has a Target milestone of OOo 3.4. I thought that regressions should be showstoppers, but apparently they are not. The behaviour is different in OOo 3.2 and OOo 3.2. See my description in the bug report I made that has been closed as a duplicate. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=116063 Larry -- -- _________________________________ Larry I. The latest Java update (1.6.0_22) breaks OOo. Java does not work. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=115180 There is discussion at: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=34853#p161115 and http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35179 Some people have used the workaround listed in the bug report and have had further problems with it. I was asked how to undo the patch but I do not know the Unix command line. Would someone post the instructions for doing so? I haven't tried the patch yet because I do not like doing anything in Terminal unless I know how to undo it. -- -- --------------------- Larry I. Hi Jack, Am Fri, 4 Jun 2010 10:50:43 -0400 schrieb Jack Howarth: > I noticed that there seems to be no builds > on ooopackages.good-day.net for openoffice > 3.2.1 rc's under powerpc-apple-darwin. There were changes made to this server and during that process the folder structure was adopted to be more like it is on the official mirrors. You will now find PowerPC builds here <ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/macosppc/≥ > Will > there be additional powerpc releases or is > that support winding down? Yes there will be an additional release and nope support isn't winding down, however it's getting harder to find and get PowerPC Macs that can build and test OOo at at significant speed or at a reasonable pace. We're talking about automated building and testing here. Human tests aren't affected but when taking a look around at my peers nearly all the Apple users have upgraded to an Intel Mac and the new users often don't know that there were Pre-Intel Macs. I know that there are a lot of PPC Macs out there but with less and lesser testing on this machines, support by Apple and so on there will be one day when we have to decided that newer versions of OOo only run on Intel Macs but at the moment, as far as I know, where not on the verge of this decision to be made. Hi Laurent and list, it's me again. :) First, Laurent, thanks for your help, but OO still won't compile. I did something wrong - but what? So here are the steps I did (according to http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/AquaBuild): 1. Clean Install of Mac OS X 10.6 2. Install Xcode 3.2.2 (with 10.4 SDK) 3. Downloaded DEV300_m77 (or DEV300_m78, the errors are the same) from http://download.openoffice.org/next/ and untared them into my directory. 4. Downloaded prebuild Mozilla archives (MACOSXGCCIinc.zip, MACOSXGCCIlib.zip, MACOSXGCCIruntime.zip) and placed them in the directory "DEV300_m77/moz/zipped" 5. Invoke configure: ./configure \ --with-lang="en-US de fr" \ --disable-odk \ --disable-pasf \ --disable-gtk \ --disable-headless \ --disable-build-mozilla \ --disable-fontconfig \ --without-nas \ --with-use-shell=bash \ --with-jdk-home=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home \ --with-stlport=no \ --disable-mediawiki \ --enable-werror \ --disable-vba 6. Start the Build-Process: ./bootstrap source MacOSXX86Env.Set.sh cd instsetoo_native export TMP=/tmp export SYSTEM_OPENSSL=YES build --all -P4 The "configure" parameters --disable-gtk --disable-odk --disable-vba are necessary. Without them "configure" stops with an error. So it is not possible to start the simple ./configure --build=i386-Darwin-darwin (even with the patches Laurent suggested). Any ideas what's going wrong? Thanks in advance. Tim
Hi! I'm trying to compile the current developer snapshot (DEV300_m78) on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). At the moment I get the following errors: dmake: makefile.mk: line 61: Error: -- Include file /Users/tim/DEV300_m78/solver/300/unxmacxi.pro/inc/external/neon/version.mk, not found and: ls: */localize.sdf: No such file or directory dmake: Error code 1, while making 'Shell escape' and: 2 module(s): ucb l10n need(s) to be rebuilt Reason(s): ERROR: error 65280 occurred while making /Users/tim/DEV300_m78/l10n/source ERROR: error 65280 occurred while making /Users/tim/DEV300_m78/ucb/source/ucp/webdav Are these known errors? Could anyone help? Thanks in advance, Tim Schürmann tischuer <at> yahoo.de
Hi *, as the baseline of Mac OSX 10.4 only ships with python version 2.3, OOo is compiled against that version. This is not a problem when running python from within OOo, you can run python macros on 10.4/10.5/10.6 with no problem with a default installation of Mac OSX. There is a big "BUT" however: On never versions of Mac OSX, it is not possible to run standalone python with pyuno. I.e. you cannot run python from outside OOo and run your script. You'll get "incompatible version" style errors. (newer versions of Mac OSX ship with the 2.3 basic framework, but only have python2.5 and 2.6 launchers. I failed to get it to "import uno" on 10.6, no matter what tricks with environment variables I tried. Maybe there's some trick to get it running, but I gave up. I'm neither a python nor a Mac user, so there might still be a way though. (Again: running python macros from within OOo is not a problem, python loaded via OOo's library gets things right) Eric Bachard made me aware on IRC that the python in OOo's sources is already at 2.6.1 and made me start working on it. For some reason Eric cut communication after I filed the issues with patches <sigh/>, so I finished it myself. Main issue is http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=111496 Other issues with the corresponding patches can be found in the depending issues. The questions basically are: Should OOo for Mac ship with internal python? Or should it still use system-python? Anyone a python-guru/deep into Apple's Framework stuff who can tell how to get a "import uno" work on Mac OSX >10.4 from outside OOo? Anyone into python extensions and want to give internal python 2.6.1 a thorough test? Anyone for code-review? If necessary, I could provide installsets for PPC (build-OS: 10.4) and Intel (build-OS: 10.6). ciao Christian
Hi. I am searching for feedback about following ideas against applying them
in Google soc 2010:
1. Smart zoom (additional controls would be shown rather font resize)
2. Gnash movie support for OpenOffice
3. Multimedia add-ons support for Adobe Reader targeted export
4. MathML formula editor with Ribbon interface + exporting a MS Word doc
with Word compatible formula editor format [MathML to OLE binary converter]
5. Document review services threw OpenOffice tools & email/NFS/Samba
share(s)
6. OpenOffice collaboration support with replication against project
management tool (Redmine with openoffice web preview plug-in?)
7. Provide a translation command in Writer menu:
1. Using Lingvo web site
2. Using off-line dictionary (not multilingual!)
8. Note: translation results should appear in (a set of) dialog based
window(s) - to ensure that nested occurrences are separated
9. In-place translation of word in Impress without exiting presentation
mode:
1. Word itself is targeted threw mouse cursor (or any external
pointing device - perhaps slides are showed in wide screen) ( + hotkey?)
2. Hands-free facility: voice recognition initiation
10. Organize Writer preferences for mode center customization, e.g.
educational/reading mode, document forming/preparation mode, etc.
11. IEEE standard driven document populating facility - smart editing
tools for forming technical documents "under rules' pressure"
12. "Getting stated" point is the same panel as File->Templates and
documents
1. Document formation rules could be activated threw IEEE on-line
services at back-end
2. When document generated from template - activate facilities for
interactive add-ins in case of PDF exporting:
3. Unnecessary performance could be lost in case if user will not
decide to export to PDF
13. Provide collaboration facilities with use of contacts of co-workers
and reading/conversation rights threw LDAP (OpenDS?)
14. Provide technical task forming tools to Writer
