Ottawa's Mini-Maker Faire

12 – 6PM
November 6th and 7th, 2010
2 Daly Ave.
Free

"Considering that some of the greatest leaps forward in American
technological history have been scrappy homebrews (Apple Computer was a
literal garage startup), it's really kind of exciting to think that, given
its explosive growth, the Maker Faire might well help along an invention
or two that's truly important." – Advertising Age

The innovation laced through the capital region is impressive, and this
first ever Mini-Maker Faire is a chance to connect creative people from
all over our region in a celebration of the DIY spirit. A Mini-Maker Faire
brings together families and individuals who celebrate Arts, Crafts,
Engineering, Food, Music, Sustainability, and Science and those who
embrace the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) spirit. At Maker Faire, the focus is on
the process of making – not just the finished product.

The real story here is the curiosity, vibrancy, and passion of the Makers
themselves, the people who comprise the rapidly emerging DIY category.
Scientists, homemakers, students, automotive enthusiasts, software
developers, musicians, crafters of all stripes: individuals and
communities of people drawn together by a common delight in the magic of

Re: [PD] Flexible Step Sequencers For Pd Vanilla

great. if you're interested, it's not that hard to change the amount of
"steps" in the display (either with data structures or simple canvas).
hope that you got the datebank loading properly. the next meeting should
be on the 19th, it's not completely sure yet.

Pd-berlin meeting next tuesday, 19th October

Hello,

next tuesday, 19th October, will be the next meeting of Pure Data users
in Berlin at NK (http://www.nkprojekt.de/) - Elsenstr. 52, 2HH 2Etage.

For more information, look up
http://puredata.info/community/organization/pd-berlin/pd-berlin-users-group.
We also encourage you to take an active part, and put up suggestions for
topics you want to talk about / topics you want to be talked about.

Doors are open from 20h-20h15. After that they'll be closed, and you will
have to call someone from the Pd-meeting to get in. To get a telephone
number to call or confirm assistance you can write to
info_at_minitronics.net.

Please, don´t call to the staff of NK to open the doors. They let us use
the space but we have to take care about having the meeting without
producing any disturbance to them, and to clean the space after the
meeting.

We would apreciate if you would send us a small mail to
info_at_minitronics.net with your name, Pd experience and interests, so
that we know how many people might be coming. Or put your name in the
pd-berlin wiki page.

We would like to thank the support and willingness of NK in the
organization of these events.

NYC Patching Circle this Sunday 10/17, 3-8pm

Time for more patching! Pure Data 0.43 is about to be released, so
some of us will be working on finalizing that. It includes a major
update to the GUI to enable lots of customization. You can now
customize the Pd GUI using simple plugins. Come bring your projects
or try out Pd 0.43.

We'll be at NYC Resistor this Sunday from 3-8pm.

http://puredata.info/community/NYCPatchingCircle

We spend enough time alone staring at our computers; we are proposing
to work together. So often issues that arise when working can be
solved with a quick two minute discussion that would take hours to
solve alone. We have Dorkbot to see people's work, we have Share where
anyone can play, we have workshops and universities to learn from.
This is a meeting where we all can come to work.

This is an informal gathering of patching and patchers (Pd, Max/MSP/
Jitter, and even vvvv, Eyesweb, Labview, etc.). Beginners and
Experienced welcome. Open to everyone, students, the public, etc. Work
on personal projects, professional projects, school projects, ask for
help, help others, or just patch quietly to yourself, in a room full of
other people patching patches and helping other people patch.

Every third Sunday of the month, so this Sunday, August 15th!
3-8pm (a little later than before)
Free!

Workshop: Starting with Sensors and Interaction, <at> ACADIA conference

http://www.acadia.org/acadia2010/workshops

11- WORKSHOP TITLE: Starting with Sensors and Interaction
Instructor: Hans-Christoph Steiner (hans@...), Interaction
Designer and Artist; Pd, Arduino, and Firmata Developer
Administrative Support:
Duration: 1 Day
Date: Wednesday, 20th (10am-5pm) of October of 2010
Theme: Using Pd and Arduino to create real-time interaction
The combination of sensors and computers provide myriad opportunities
for creating interactions. This workshop will introduce how to use
computers and sensors to generate real-time interaction in the
physical world with light and movement. Pd (aka Pure Data) will be
introduced as a simple programming enviroment for real-time
interaction. Arduinos running Firmata software will be used to
interface to the sensors, electronics, servos, etc. This workshop will
be a combination of short lectures, hands-on instruction, and
unstructured time to work on learning and exploring with support of
the instructor. While Pd is fairly easy to learn and designed for
artists, familiarity with basic computer programming will be very
beneficial. You will be able to apply the concepts learned in this
course to a wide range of programming environments where Arduino /
Firmata is supported, including Flash, Processing, and more.

We have the required electronics tools at the venue but your
encouraged to make arrangements for purchasing the following kit:
http://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17&products_id=170Â
Students are also encouraged to bring additional hardware and/or
tools they are interested in working with. Bring DMX lighting, LEDs,
projectors, etc. to experiment with real-time lighting control. Bring

[arte + innovación] Taller de Algoritmia 2010

Estimados(as),

ICG    ::  Introducción a Computer Graphics
IPD    ::  Introducción a Pure Data (Pd)
ISM    ::  Introducción a Sensores con Microcontroladores
IBE    ::  Instrumentación Bioelectrónica
ISS    ::  Introducción a la Síntesis de Sonidos con Pd
IMMVP  ::  Introducción a Método en Música y Video-Performance con Pd
IOSC   ::  Introducción a Open Sound Control (OSC)
SSII   ::  Sensores Inalámbricos
CCDD   ::  Controladores Digitales
IMMEPD ::  Introducción a Métodos en Música Electrónica con Pd
IOCV   ::  Introducción a Open Computer Vision (OpenCV)
IEM    ::  Instrumentos Electrónicos Musicales

    Larseneur : http://larseneur.net
    Thomas Thiery : http://www.th-th.fr

2. Nouveaux externes dans la librairie "tof"
    (Thomas O. Fredericks)

    GridFlow 9.11 ([gf/gl]).

4. On parlera un peu de ZenGarden (http://github.com/mhroth/ZenGarden)

5. Le Cyc
    (Martin Eckart)

For the project I built a projection system in PD-GEM which allows the
artist to "perform" the visuals (including panning/zooming) in
real-time with the band. It's a glorified slideshow but I'm proud of
    it :)

We're performing that and our newer project "Hello Adventure" (no
online samples...yet. More of a stop-motion animation piece) in
Montreal this coming weekend and in other parts of Ontario through
early November so if you're in the area please do come say hi.
