Pd FLOSS Manuals Book Sprint WIKI

To all of those planning on participating in the Pd FLOSS Manuals Book
Sprint this weekend, either remotely or in NYC or Berlin, I've placed
the list of topics on the FLOSS Manuals site here:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/PureData/ChitChat

If you haven't yet, please make yourself a login
here:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/login/TWiki/WebHome?origurl=/bin/view/PureData/Introduction&skin=floss2

And please list your name and what you'd like to work on in the "Who
will be there and what will they do?" section!

General info on the sprint can be found here, in case you want to know
more but don't want to register on FLOSS Manuals:

best!

Re: [PD] Pd FLOSS Manuals Book Sprint WIKI

I had some questions about the next days:

- the berlin one starts at "noon". what is noon exactly here, or, how does
it translates into a definite hour?
- how late is "late" as well? (for some people, 4am isn't late)
- I don't have time now to be thinking of a new super concept to make
people understand digital audio in 5 minutes. so I would be glad to revise
material that other people don't want to touch.
- when are the pauses to have a beer at treptower park if it's still as
sunny as today?

I had some questions about the "philosophical" point of this. I was just
having a look at the manuals:

- the manuals are a bit loose, it's a bit of nice ideas put together
(which is normal for the beginning). maybe they could be organized around
themes later?
- they're also made almost as if they would be the only resources online.
how about putting at least a reference to the pd original tutorials? (I
can go hunt for that) or maybe even to other tutorials spread around (that
might be a bit more tricky, in case this material isn't that solid)
- what's the main goal of this manual? just include as much stuff as
possible, or is there an "editorial line", or a finished form to aim at?
- in general, I guess the dataflow (or control) tutorials could be more
developed - comparing with the audio ones, they're behind. shouldn't they
also come first, sequentially?
- there was some comments before about incorporating pd-ext into the
manuals. that means that pd-ext is then the "official" version? (which is
fine for me, makes more sense for newcommers) in that case, the most
stable libraries should be included in the manuals as well (making a

Re: Pd FLOSS Manuals Book Sprint WIKI

Derek,

I was poking around the site, and it looks great. I was noticing that
the link on the (
http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/PureData/ChitChat ) page has a
broken link for ( http://en.flossmanuals.net/puredata ), it would
appear there is a space at the end of the link, and as such, does not
work...

Pd FLOSS Manual Update pt 1

Dear list,

the book sprint for the Pd FLOSS Manual last weekend went very well!
Several writers and proofreaders joined us at each location in New York
City and Berlin, as well as remote contributors online (see contributors
below).

The good news is that quite a lot of content was generated over the
weekend, including the beginnings of entirely new sections on GEM, MIDI,
Network Data and Sensors. You can see the work-in-progress FLOSS Manual
via the editing interface here:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/PureData/WebHome

The not-so-good news is that most of these new sections are in limbo!
Next month, Adam and I hope to publish version 1.0 of the Pure Data
FLOSS Manual to the front page of the FLOSS Manuals site for public viewing:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/

The chapters that will be included in Version 1.0 will be:

INTRODUCTION
INSTALLING
GETTING STARTED
THE INTERFACE
AUDIO TUTORIALS
DATAFLOW TUTORIALS
STREAMING
LIST OF OBJECTS

Pd FLOSS Manual Update pt 2

So here is part two!

The following chapters were newly created during the Book Sprint. We'd
really like to see them come together, but we don't think they will be
anywhere near ready before we decide to publish the version 1.0. Futher
work on these chapters is also appreciated, but only after the chapters
we have marked for inclusion in the 1.0 are complete. Writing, editing
and proofreading on these chapters can continue as normal, and when we
are ready for a second release (now with GEM + SENSORS!) then we will
include them.

CHAPTERS FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT, not to be included in upcoming 1.0
release:

GEM
SENSORS
MIDI
NETWORK DATA

When the version 1.0 is completed, and these chapters are also fixed,
then we can consider a paper publication!!!!!!

Here are the issues and places for improvement on each chapter. Again,
we welcome improvements to these chapters, but if you are going to spend
any time on this manual in the next few weeks, it would make more sense
to focus on the chapters marked for publication (see Part 1 of this update):

____GEM_____

-> These chapters need a lot of work to be anywhere near complete!

Workshop spatial acoustics simulation with Georg Holzmann in Halle/Germany

ENGLISH: Workshop announcment spatial acoustics simulation in Pure data

GERMAN:
Georg Holzmann (DE): Raumklangsimulation mit Pure data
5.6.2009 14 UHR - 7.6.2009 16 UHR
