I need an opportunity for online lessons with Polycom

Dear list members:

My name is Masami Kikuchi (Mr), an independent Japanese
developer/explorer/organizer/producer of live and interactive cultural
exchange programmes using videoconferencing systems, in and from Japan.

One of my cultural partners, Mr. Noriaki Mita
(http://www.miduho.gr.jp/gagaku/) is strongly willing to realize a
trilateral "Gagaku" lessons online among Seoul (Korea) - Tokyo (Japan) -
Fremont (CA), for his students.
We have been realizing a number of live and fully interactive Gagaku lessons
between Seoul and Tokyo, and now one of the students is visiting Woodgrove
Common, Fremont, CA, for her summer school programmes.
I found the place is quite neighbourhood to Milpitas where Polycom
Headquarters is located.

Could anyone in the district cooperate and collaborate with us by arranging
a small venue with Polycom equipment for their online lessons in August?

Please raise your hand, and shake hands with us.

Best regards,

Masami Kikuchi

Firmware version of Polycom Viewstation MP?

The VAR installing our new ISDN-driven VOIP system is obligated to
provide our Polycom Viewstation MPs a connection to the world, so they
can dial out throuh the new phone router, and so callers can dial into
our new VOIP system and reach the Viewstations.

The service engineer doing the install wants us to "upgrade the
firmware" as "version 3 does not support" his manufacturer's video
connectivity. However, the Viewstations have the version 7.52
software right out of the box, and 7.54 is the current release.

Are we talking apples and oranges? Is there firmware independent of
the current 7.54 software?

Thank you kindly for your on-topic response.

What good are they?

I have 2 Picturetel SS700 units, what are they good for? Is there any
way to use the cameras as webcams?

Thanks, George

Dance lesson online

Dear Polycom users:

My name is Masami Kikuchi (Mr), an independent Japanese
explorer/developer/producer of live and interactive cultural exchange
programmes using videoconference in/from Japan.

I am very pleased to announce, thus invite you to, the really epoch-making
series of events organized between Korea and Japan.

I have been collaborating with Gagaku Master Noriaki Mita to explore and
share the opportunity of Gagaku (pronounced as "ga'nga-ku"), the very old
court and ritual performing art of Japan with over 1300 years of history,
with the people in the East Asia, in that the Gagaku has been inherited via
Korean Peninsula and the old Silk Roads to Japan.

On occasion of registration as an official programme for the "Japan Korea
Friendship Year 2005", Midzuho Gagaku-kai Company, Tokyo, Japan, has started
an online lesson programme with the students of Korea National University of
Arts (KNUA) in Seoul, Korea, using the state-of-the-art Polycom solutions,
supported by Polycom Japan:
Polycom ViewStation 512 and/or iPower 600 in Tokyo; Polycom VSX7000 in Seoul
both over IP at the nominal speed at 768kbps.

Unlike using Polycom solutions for the (boring and snoring...sorry?)
tele-conference, this application for the arts is very exciting and
explorable for future inter-cultural video collaborations.

We are open to share the opportunities of experiencing the wonder and
excellence of the Polycom solutions over this series of "tele-lessons" being
realized in Tokyo and in Seoul:

Polycom PVX on Windows X64

Hi,
I am emailing on behalf of a colleague who is trying to install PolyCom PVX
software on a Windows X64 box. He is getting an error message that informs
him that the processor is below minimum spec (!)
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks,

Geoff.

Assistance needed for NEW Video Conference Room

I am the regional project manager for a Healthcare group in So. Cal.
I have been tasked with putting together an executive Video
Conferencing system for our execs. I have done a few in the past
smaller, portable. But nothing on this scale. I need to know what
things I should consider for Preparing a Scope of Work. I have a few
items listed, but I'm not sure if I'm covering everything.

Scope of work for Video Conferencing

The room is described as a rectangular room approximately 17 x 35.
The requirements are:
•	Capability to interface A/V connectivity (6).
•	Capability to interface DB15 computer connectivity (2).
•	Capability to interface Network connectivity (1).
•	Capability video conference system to follow speaker.
•	Capability to control video session manually/automatically
from single control panel
•	Overhead (?) Projection system to white wall/screen
•	Whiteboard
Any ADA requirements for room?
•	Hearing/vision/mobility impaired
•	closed caption
•	voice recognition

Lectern or Secretariat
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Inquiry VSX7000 reputation.

Hi all,

This is Tani of Toyota Digital Cruise Inc.
(We are integrator of Video conferece system and network.)

Our customer is planning to introduce a multipoint videoconference system
For their head office and other nine offices.
Network service type they use is IP-VPN with 1.5Mbps per each site.

They selected PCS-1 after comparison with ViewstationEX, since the price for PCS-1 is lower.
We are trying to give another offer to the customer with VSX7000 instead of ViewstationEX.

If you were a user of VSX7000, would you please let us know how good (or not good) the quality is in picture or
voice, or frequency of failure.
We need information on quality of VSX7000.

Especially, the information from the users if VSX7000 with IP-VPN network would be preferable.

We would greatly appreciate your time and courtesy in responding.

Thank you!

Re: need your assistance, please

Dear Geoffrey,

Thank you very much for your advice and comments; it will be very helpful if
I try to resolve, and it is very understandable.
However, since this is my self-funded programme, I have no further technical
investigation so far; after so much cooperation and collaboration from
Polycom Beijing, Polycom Japan, and other friends and partners in Beijing
and in Tokyo.
I will let you know when we finalize the setup for live streaming using both
Polycom iPower and PC's WinMediaEncoder.

There will be two sessions in Tokyo on Saturday, 29th January:

10:30 - 12:00 JST: online workshop about the history of "Kalavinka" wall
painting and "Karyobin" gagaku dance; costume demonstration; dress
rehearsanl of "Karyobin" gagaku dance
16:00 - 18:00 JST: New Year Gagaku Performance

The time in PST will be: 17:30 - 19:00 for the first session; and 23:00 -
25:00 for the second one, on Friday, 28th.
The time in EST will be: 20:30 - 22:00 for the first session, on Friday,
28th; and 02:00 -
04:00 for the second one, on Saturday, 29th.

I look forward to your enthusiasm.

Best
