“Inside DVD-Video” Update

An update on my “Inside DVD-Video” wikibook
<https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Inside_DVD-Video>: it now includes a
full description of the VM instruction set (“Interaction Machine”, as I
prefer to call it).

The overview is here
<https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Inside_DVD-Video/Interaction_Machine>
and the details are here
<https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Inside_DVD-Video/Instruction_Set_Details>.

Corrections/clarifications welcome.

The message from ffprobe about an "unsupported codec";
also:  http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-user/2014-January/019248.html

However, my immediate problem seems to be solved. Thank you for your
help on this.

Unable to multiplex VOBSUB file via DVDStyler

Hello,

I'm making a DVD NTSC to PAL conversion authoring it with DVDStyler

The mpeg file was correctly converted via some tools but now I'm
converting the subtitles.
I used VobSub to extract and change subs frame rate as described at
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_sync_subtitles_page_2.cfm

The source was an NTSC video with 23,977 fps and italian subtitles
starting at about 1:20:36

The video/DVD was correctly imported/exported via DVDStyler but adding the
VOBsub file I got the below log error. I changed the encoding charset form
utf8 to iso and cp but the multiplex fails again with different errors
(lines too long).

The subtitle file is correctly detected by virtualdub and vobsub plugnin
if I load the whole film with it.

Can someone help me?

Regards
Vittorio

GraphicsMagick CFLAGS detection

Currently, dvdauthor fails to build against GraphicsMagick as it
doesn't retrieve the CFLAGS from pkg-config (see [0]). The attached
patch simplifies configure.ac, using the pkg-config macro to obtain
the settings for GraphicsMagick.

[mpeg2desc.c:660]: (style) Array index 'hdroffs' is used before limits check.

Hello there,

I just ran the static analyser "cppcheck" over the source code
of dvdauthor-0.7.1

It said many things, including

 [mpeg2desc.c:660]: (style) Array index 'hdroffs' is used before limits check.

Source code is

while (buf[hdroffs] == 0xff && hdroffs < sizeof(buf))

Suggest put limit check before use.

spumux GIMP plugin use.

Hi,
How is your experience with the GIMP plugin for DVD button development ? http://registry.gimp.org/node/16190

In the associated tutorial, there is a step about adding text for buttons. In the parentheses, there is this statement -

"Make sure the text is actually in the layer, and not in it's own layer!"

What does it mean ?

I am new to GIMP and I noticed that when I click on the icon to add text, it adds a layer to the PNG. So, for every button of text, a new layer is created. Then, I merge one with another until all of them are on the original background image. Is this the right way ?

And, yes, after generating the XML for spumux (from the GIMP plugin), running spumux with it and finally, using it with dvdauthor, the result is a VOB that does not show the buttons.

DVD menu navigation advice.

Hi,
I have some educational videos that I would like to structure in a way shown below. I want each video (title) to be individually accessible title and yet, when the disc is inserted, I want the user to first see "higher level" menu. That is, the menu should have links for Introduction, Mathematics, Science and History.

Can you please give me a couple of hints on how to accomplish this with the XML configuration file for dvdauthor ?

How to separate words more clearly with spumux?

Hi,
First, thanks for these great programs!
I've been using spumux to add subtitles to a film.
It works well.
But it would be even better if words were separated more clearly.
More precisely, if the letters in each word were bound together, with no
space (or almost no space) between them.
That would make the subtitles easier to read, each word forming a clear
unit.
Is there a way to do that, by using a parameter, or creating a custom
version of spumux?
Thanks,
David
(NB: Personnaly, I know very little about programming.)

dvdunauthor: possible bug when having "No VTS_TMAPT available - skipping"

hello,

I'm using dvdunauthor for demuxing a DVD so my kids can watch the
different episode of their cartoon on a tablet (I thanks the authors for
the only tool I found for this task when multiple episodes are mixed in
one DVD when opening and ending of each episode are split ...)

Today, it failed with the following trace (I'm using ubuntu 12.04).
The application exit just after extracting too few vobs

I grab the latest source code dvdauthor-0.7.1.tar.gz and get a look.
the code exit in dvdunauthor.c, in void getVobs(dvd_reader_t *dvd, const
ifo_handle_t *ifo, int titleset, int titlef)

         vobs = DVDOpenFile(dvd, titleset, titlef ? DVD_READ_TITLE_VOBS
: DVD_READ_MENU_VOBS);
         if (vobs == NULL)
           {
           /* error message already output */
             exit(1);
           } /*if*/

when trying to getVobs() for the 'ifo' which "ifoOpen(dvd, titleset)"
trigger this "No VTS_TMAPT available" message.

Yet, if I change the "exit(1)" to a "return" in this previous getVobs(),
I'm able to read all vobs of the DVD correctly.?
May be getVobs() is not enough tolerant for some errors ?

Regards,
Arnaud
