A new breed of free email! Worldwide access including WWW, Outlook, mobiles/PDAs etc.!

Being a gadget freak I own a T68I, T39, 6310I, 7650, 8310, and an IPAQ 3970. I've spent many an hour looking for
a unified email solution that would enable me to access my email from not only my *favorite email client &
web browser* but also my *mobile devices* as well. Eventually I found a solution offered by UPO, here's the
link :

http://www.universalpostoffice.com

They also offer you a variety of available email addresses including such as mymobile.net, and various
other phone/PDA type domains. They're even including 10mb of storage and POP3 access and aren't charging
a cent. For how long I don't know. BTW, easy access via GPRS/CSD with any built-in phone email client like
the 7650 or T68(I) has!

Npl & private use issue.

Hi all ..

I've _added_ a few lines of code in the navigator.xul (licensed under
npl) file from chrome/comm.jar, my questions are

can I use it for my customers under a different brand ?
can I distribute it under a different brand ?

If by "brand" you mean can you distribute the "Eriam Schaffter" browser
rather than "Mozilla" then yes, that's what AOL does to produce the Netscape
browser. But the source code is still under the Mozilla Public License and
you must follow its requirements. These include telling your customers in
some prominent place that your product was derived from Mozilla code and
where they can get the source code (for details see the license). Since you
have modified the basic Mozilla source you must also distribute your
Modifications.

It means if Netscape, for example, included the JavaScript engine in a
server product, they would not have to open source any part of that
server product.

However, the NPL exceptions have no real impact on Mozilla development
today, because there is so much MPLed code in the tree that Netscape
would probably have great difficulty extracting a large enough NPLed
piece to be useful in something else.

mfcembed license?

Hello,

I asked in another group but this is probably a better place. What is
the intended license of the mfcembed program? In mfcembed.cpp I see this:

 * Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a
 * copy of this Mozilla sample software and associated documentation files
 * (the "Software"), to deal in the Software without restriction, including
 * without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish,
 * distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit
 * persons to whom the Software is furnished to do so, subject to the
 * following conditions:
 *
 * The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included
 * in all copies or substantial portions of the Software.
 *
 * THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS
 * OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
 * FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL
 * THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER
 * LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING
 * FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER
 * DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

In other words, a standard MIT license. But some other files in the
same directory, even files written by the same person, look like this:

 * Version: NPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1
 *
 * The contents of this file are subject to the Netscape Public License

A copyright only really makes sense if the person with the copyright is
named, and also willing to litigate to enforce the copyright.

If I were you, I would merely release the code with an open-source
license, anonymously, and not worry. This gives people who want to play
by the rules assurance that they are not violating someone's copyright
by using it under the terms of said license. Without the willingness to
sue, you can't do anything about people who don't play by the rules anyway.

There is nothing in the license which forbids you to make this change.
