No VC2005 compatible?

(sorry for my english)
Hello Enigmail-Team, hello girls and guys

Quick and short. Enigmail don't work with TB builds if TB is build
with VC2005 (win32 of course ;-) ). I am testing many builds and
Enigmail worked with no one. I know, that VC2005 builds are community
builds but I made many tests with one of the builder and we make a
build with 100% original Mozilla code. No 3rd part patches, no
tweaks, no speedups. Don't work. The *same* code build with VC2003,
work!

Full "tweaked" code with all speedup compiler options of VC2003,
Enigmail runing (!) We checked all options of VC2005 + with and
without PGO. Enigmail don't work.We testing current release and the
060930 nightly.

Error message "Enigmail Service not available".

VC2005pro TB build:
http://www1.plala.or.jp/tete009/en-US/software.html#THUNDERBIRD

p.s.: Sorry for OE! :-) This is my first mailinglist posting. I
thought I maybe make a big foul in the config and I will for first
"protect" my TB config :-p

I'll give you the answer Patrick Brunschwig gave me after I asked about
compiling with MinGW:

Well, I'm not an expert building for win, but generally any extension
needs to be built with the same compiler than the main application.

So, you have to build enigmail yourself, which is a minor effort
compared to build TB.

Please follow the instructions on http://enigmail.mozdev.org/source.html

You have to build Enigmail with the same compiler as Thunderbird. The
problem is that VC2005 uses some other libraries than Visual C++ 6.0
(which is used for building "standard" Thunderbird and Enigmail builds).

As I recall, Gecko 1.8 builds are not supported on VC8 (VS 2005) and Gecko 1.9
trunk builds are only supported under VC8 and VC7.1.

Building TB 1.5.x and TB 2.0 will need to be performed with VC 7.1 or older.

Re: Enigmail not finding gpg-agent

Sorry folks about the email appearing as scam. In any case, does anyone have any idea of a solution to the problem I'm having with gpg-agent? Tx!

I think TB did the right job. The link was in the mail, most probably
unwanted by the OP. I think we should blame gmail who thought 4 numbers
with dots in between must be an IP-address and put http:// in front of it.

Building TB 1.5.x and TB 2.0 will need to be performed with VC 7.1 or older.

See

and

http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Windows_Build_Prerequisites#Table_of_supported_Visual_Studio_compilers

Microsoft announced discontinuation of Win98 and Win98SE sometime around July 2005. Mozilla developers stopped supporting Win98/Win98SE on trunk builds sometime between November 2005 and Feb 2006. This was done by using a newer MS VC compiler with a runtime MSVCRT.DLL file or files that were not provided in Win98SE. I think Win98 will still run 1.0x and 1.1x builds.

I'm running a 2-year-old Linux with an i686 kernel 2.6.8.1-12, gtk2 and Mozilla 1.7.2 which came with it, and tried Enigmail 0.94.1 (the latest) for Seamonkey, etc. It wouldn't run on this system. When I wrote an earlier version of this note, sending didn't work. Version 0.93 seems to work. There are more problems with 0.94.x than just in Windows versions.

I'm a total novice at Enigmail, just curious about it.

John

You cannot use the Seamonkey versions of Enigmail for Mozilla 1.7.x
(Seamonkey is Mozilla 1.8 and is not compatible with Mozilla 1.7.x). The
last Enigmail version for Mozilla 1.7.x is 0.93.0.

Installation Problem

Hi;
I've downloaded  gpg4win-1.0.6 and enigmail-0.94.1-tb15-win32 to install on my XP Windoze box. The instructions say this:2

Unfortunately the original gnupg.org Windows installer does not modify the  PATH , so you must do it manually: on a Windows NT/2000/XP system, open Settings → System → Advanced → Environment Variables and edit the  PATH  variable under System variables. In the edit field, add  ;C:\Program Files\GNU\GnuPG  to the end of the Path and then click OK three times. On a Windows 9x system, edit  C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT  and add  ;C:\Progra~1\GNU\GnuPG  to the end of the  PATH  statement.

Huh? Where's "Settings"? Not in any of the s/w I just installed! In Doze somewhere? Where?
TIA,
Ted

On Windows XP, perform one of the following:

  a) Right click 'My Computer', select Properties

   *OR*

  b) Start --> Settings --> Control Panel. Open 'System'

Now click the 'Advanced' tab, then the 'Environment Variables' button.

Edit the PATH variable as described above.
