Multiple collectors on a single server?

Hi all,

Is there a wiki or a howto describing how to setup multiple collectors (v3.0.2) on a single instance of
Zenoss?  Every time I go through the process the second collector never seems to poll data and graphs
always read nan values.

Thanks!

Memory leak during backup

Running Zenoss on a 4 gb machine for 18 months. No issues and I have made no configuration changes in 5 months.
5 days ago things went bad with a lot of heartbeat failures. After a reboot everything worked well for about
a day. After much searching and testing I discovered that when I run backup the memory climbs.

During backup this is the memory reading from htop rreads like this:
Mem:4030M used:672M buffers:51M cache:3217M

Backups always took approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds now they take 36 minutes.

Any thoughts???

Joe

User has no roles and no alerting rules tab

Zenoss 2.5.2 on Debian.

I have discovered that 3 of my Zenoss users have no Alerting Rules tab.  When I check, they (and only those 3)
have no Role selected (they have a Default admin role but I don't think that is used in Zenoss Core??).
When, as the admin user, I try to modify the user to assign a role, I get a brief popup at the bottom saying that
"User jane not found".

I have looked at the users with Zope Management Interface and these 3 users look the same as others but Role
doesn't seem to be part of their definition.  I also went into acl_users from ZMI and can see Manager,
Owner, ZenManager and ZenUser under the Role Manager with assignments of all the "good" users but the 3 bad
ones don't show on this page.  Don't want to hack in here without good advice......

Anyone else seen this or have suggestions for fixing?

Cheers,
Jane

No graph data

Hi,
I'm a n00b to Zenoss and have some (probably basic) questions about why I don't get any data in some graphs.
I have been thorugh the forums and docs and FAQ, but can't find anything.
I have 3.0.3 running on Ubuntu. I'm trying to monitor one server with MySQL and Apache.
I can monitor the server (server A) with SNMP and get the CPU and mem graphs nicely.
The Apache and MySQL graphs (from the Zenpacks) have no data (nan).
I thought this was a firewall issue, but I can use the shell on the Zenoss server to get the Apache status with
lynx and connect to the MySQL on server A.
I am also missing al data in the Components graphs (interfaces, filesystems etc.).

Any help or directions would be appreciated

Regards
Marcus

Re: Event says process is not running, but it is

I was just wondering what I'm really looking for in the logs.  I see where an email was sent out due to that
process either giving an error or clearing an error in the zenactions log.  In the zenprocess log I see the
following error:

2010-11-30 12:46:41,163 WARNING zen.zenprocess: Process not running: w3wp.exe -a
p "WsusPool" -v "v2.0" -l "webengine4.dll" -a \\.\pipe\iisipmf2026877-922f-468c-
afd6-0de2f9e5932c -h "C:\inetpub\temp\apppools

These servers are not very heavily loaded.  In fact, one of them is a webserver with only one site on it that
doesn't really get hit a lot.  I haven't had any problems with the SNMP agent...that seems to be working
fine.  I changed the zMaxOIDs to 20.  I'll post back in a bit to let you know if that helps!

Thanks!

Re: Event says process is not running, but it is

Maybe someone else can comment, but it looks like it's checking the arguments also... Are you sure you said
ignore arguments? Maybe make the regex
w3wp.exe*
??

ERROR zen.Zuul The IP address is already assigned

Sorry for the non-technical explanation, but I seem to have an old IP address stuck somewhere in the system.

Here is what I have been able to determine (not sure if it is all related).

I started noticing that my graphs stopped working, I then discovered that zencommand was having errors for
"Too many open files".  I then discovered a bunch of processes for fping which seemed to be hung.

Restarting zencommand gets graphs working again, but the log then shows complainys about fping related to
a specific IP address.

Within zenoss that IP address does not appear to be assigned to any devices.  However, when I try to assign
the IP address to the appropriate device I get a error "Failed to Assign IP Address" and I see "ERROR
zen.Zuul The IP address is already assigned".

Due to lack of a better term, I think the IP address is stuck in the system somewhere and I am unable re-assign
it or find it to delete it.

I don't know if it is related or not, but I am unable to reindex() in zendmd - the last line of the output being:
"AttributeError: zMySqlPassword"

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks,
   David

Re: devices disappearing

An update on the performance issues:

I setup the OS on a RAID 1 and gave /opt it's RAID 10 configuration.  I also upgraded to 3.0.3.  Everything
is running smoothly, and the UI is extremely quick now.

Thanks for all your help,
atom
