Re: IMPORTANT: Major changes in trunk

*"zenoss versions will store all information in mysql instead of just events"*

Fantastic. This is the best news I heard for a long time. We were so fed up with ZEO problems that I started to
reevaluate alternatives to Zenoss. The ZEO concept may be elecant but from a practical standpoint it is a
pain in the ***

Glad to hear that I can stop searching for Zenoss alternatives. I haven't seen any Mgmt GUI that is more
appealing and usable than Zenoss. Thank you for this fantastic work and gratulations to starting the
transition from ZEO to MySQL.

Re: ZenCommand fails with too many open files

edit /etc/security/limits.conf (see
http://knol.google.com/k/fred-grott/open-file-limits-settings-on-ubuntu/166jfml0mowlh/3#
for details). You may either increase nofile limit for zenoss user or for "*".

Create local copy of template

I am trying to create a local copy of template HttpMonitor but don't know how (Zenoss version 3). I don't see
any button or menu to do so. I see Override Template Here in Action Menu, but when I choose HttpMonitor
template and run this option, HttpMonitor becomes empty. I would like to define a different port than 80 to
check for just one device.

Second question: how is it possible to trigger an alert by email if http answer is different than 200?

Thanks.

Re: WMI Windows Performance modeling fails with error

Oops.

I haven't used the EC2, so that I don't know how to resolve it.
Try to allow the application is better than from port base is this case. The randomly port is used as I found before.

My experience for resolving WMI error is using the WMI tool and the wbemtest.exe from Microsoft to test the connection.
This is for ensure the WMI from target server is working fine and focusing on the network setting.

Just sharing if you have done the test.

Okay. How do I pin it?

Btw, how do I revert to the old Zope version?

Already removed the Zenoss stack package and reinstalled it but the it seems not to affect my Zope install.
It's still using the alpha. Thanks.

Renaming classes and Systems and Event classes

Hi

Sometimes it is needed to do a name change on the classes and systems and Event classes that are available.
Name change is easy as you can just select the class name and then do the rename from page menu. But the main
part is the dependency of varius other things like Alerts or User dashboards on the classes. Is there any
way to do rename and then search all instances of that name in ZopeDb and change all at once? Any advice would
be good.

Regards
NG

Free SNMP Informant for Windows 2008 Server: does it work?

Hello all,

in our ZenOSS implementations we are successfully using the free Informant SNMP Agent version 1.6 for
monitoring Windows 2003 Server (both 32 and 64 bit).

I'd like to know if someone among you is using it for Windows 2008: the product release notes for SNMP
Informant do not mention Windows 2008 support.

Anyone?

TIA

Cheers,
Luca
