Re: RE: History Database Maintenance

I'd like a wiki entry or how-to on how to do this please.

Events Database Cleanup

I'm using 2.4.2 stack-install on RHEL5. My events database has grown to 29GB. I adjust the setting to delete
"events older than" from 365 days to 90, but I assum I will now also have to truncate the database to recover
the disk space.

Any recommendations? What's the best way to keep this under control?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Events Database Cleanup

Excuse me, I mean shrink/compact the database, as truncate would nuke it all, right?

Re: As a monitor in the process???

if you are trying to monitor a windows service, you have to make sure the zenoss wmi monitoring of the device
is working.
Consult admin guide for wmi monitoring details.

Is zenoss a dog?

I tried zenoss 3 years ago, and didn't pursue it as it felt a little too 'beta' still. There were a lot of issues
that were obviously yet to be ironed out. This week I revisited zenoss.. I find the installation process
has improved but the general bugginess and performance is at least as bad! I have been building and
maintaining NMS for 15 years and it's hard to believe what I am seeing - a commercially offered product
built on code only a few years old running like an absolute dog, freezing up on every other mouse click.
Before you jump to conclusions, I did replicate this on a variety of other networks/machines/operating
systems/browsers. I also only have but a few devices added at this point. I have also tuned mysql using a
number of methods.
I am still willing to believe there is something else going on, but first a response from the community, is
zenoss a performance dog?

Re: Site window Portlet (non) autorefreshing

Me too..it's kind of annoying really. .I mean, the event view, no problem, the google map view, no problem..
It's just the site windows with the pretty graphs, which are slightly less than ideally useful if they won't
update automagically..

Re: Subnets can restrict a user sees?

No.  Any user with admin privileges can edit any device. Device groups are a separate thing from user
groups.  You can utilise device groups and usergroups in setting up alerts and event views. e.g. users in
usergroupX will receive alerts for events from devices in devicegroupY

Re: Zenoss not working properly after reboot...

you need to utilise the logs when troubleshooting.
Messages in the logs will lead you to the source of the problem ($ZENHOME/log/*)
