How to Automatically Set Different User Defaults during/after automated Installation

Hello,

I'm trying to package and roll-out Workrave 1.9.1 for Windows via an
automated software deployment. I want to start every user off with a
set of timer values that are different from the default settings
provided.

I found the registry keys stored in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Workrave\ and tried to load these new key
values as part of the deployment. Unfortunately, the installation is
performed by a dedicated installer (administrator) account, and not
through the account of the end user. So when the registry keys are
written, they are written to HKEY_CURRENT_USER for the installer
(administrator) account. HKEY_CURRENT_USER for the end user can't be
accessed by the installer, so Workrave creates the keys with default
timer values.

Is there any way to have the Workrave installer use different defaults
when it creates the registry keys for CURRENT_USER? Or is there some
other way to set a different default for user accounts?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: How to Automatically Set Different User Defaults during/after automated Installation

this is one of the reasons i suggested "user profiles" as a necessary feature to have in workrave.

I recently changed the default way of activity monitoring in Workrave.
Could you please try a recent Workrave snapshot, e.g.:

I was very pleased with this news, Wow!!! Korean get to use workrave in
your mother languages!!!

But workrave does not work with
workrave-win32-v1_9_2-38-g0763dc8b66-20101107-

I received exception error messages.

Of course, I uninstalled workrave 1.9.2 and installed workrave.

But I received message repeately.

Timer keeps cancelling out

I'm sure this is just a user error, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

If I'm inactive at my computer for a period of time (about 30 seconds, I think), the timer for a rest break starts over.

This is bad for me because I read a lot on my screen where I'm not moving the mouse or using the keyboard, but I still need the reminder to get up off of my duff.

I would have thought that turning on the "reading mode" would keep the timer from resetting, but it isn't.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm assuming you mean the micro-break timer, not the restbreak one.

Reading mode should indeed keep the timer from resetting. Just to be sure:
  • Which version of workrave are you using?
  • Are you on Windows? Or Linux? Which distro?
  • After enabling "Reading mode", is there a check mark in front of it?
Thanks,

Re: Timer Keeps Cancelling Out

It happens with both the restbreak and the micro-break timers.  Right now I have both of them set to give me a 30 second rest break every 30 seconds.   If I sit there not using the keyboard or the mouse, after about six seconds I see green bars for both timers start to move across the workrave window.  After 30 seconds, the green bar is all the way across, and the timer resets back to 30 minutes.

You can see a screen shot of this here:  http://portersworkshop.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/wrss.gif

I am using Workrave 1.9.2 on a Windows 7 machine.

There is a check mark in front of the "reading mode" menu (from the Windows Taskbar).

This would be normal behaviour if reading mode was disabled. With
reading mode enabled, this shouldn't happen.

I tried reproducing your problems. So far no luck (Workrave 1.9.3 /
Windows XP).
