Re: Under which OS can I use Mldonkey.

Did you install Debian to a pindrive. Is it too slow to hold debian?
Should I use a 1gb or 2gb pindrive to load Debian. 2GB is reported as
~ 1.6g at my slug, 1gb is only ~700M.

I run Debian from 1GB flash drives.

No.

That depends on what applications you want to install. But actually
the price differences are quite small now, and larger (newer) drives
might be slightly faster than smaller (older) ones. So it might be
sensible to use a 2 or 4 GB drive.

There was an issue with the Debian installer not allocating enough swap
with 1GB drives; I'm not sure if it has been fixed. If not, you need
to partition manually. Search the list archive for details.

That is interesting. Can you please post some more details, i.e. where
exactly are the 1.6G and 700M numbers reported? Here is one of mine:

$ df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdc1 893356 455948 392028 54% /

That's saying 893356 1024-byte blocks, = 914796544 bytes.

slug no longer unslinged

Hi,

I observed a strange problem today. I just started my slug (unslug
6.8) but it turned up running from internal flash although I unslinged
it before (and it worked that way fine).

How can I get it back to the old status?

rsync does not log files transfered

HI,
I am using rsync, controlled by dirvish to backup various machines in
my local network. It works pretty well. But sometimes the dirvish
process will give a RC=139 or RC=145 back, and I am trying to debug
that. I ping the target machines to check they are up before
attempting the backup on each machine.
In my rsyncd.conf I have these options set:

list = yes
log file = /var/log/rsyncd.log
transfer logging = yes

I never see more messages than that rsync is stopping, or starting.

Just wondering (as this may be a dirvish problem) does anyone have
rsync on unslung running OK and logging the files transfered? I have
the 2.6.9 version, which seems to be the newest ipkg could find.

I've also tried rebooting the slug just before the backup, in case of
a memory shortage for example, and recycling rsync too just before the
backup. Still the same problem.

The backups will die 1 night a week on average.

Cheers Brian

How to install a LAMP

Hi guys,
I searched for a wiki/faq or a "how to" install a lamp (I have unslung

install unslung-feeds) but I did not find anything about it. Could you
help me?

Mount Unslung drive on another PC?

Hi

I've got an NSLU2 with a 320GB HDD that is unslung. I would like to
take the HDD away from the NSLU2 and plug it into another computer via
USB2.

Will I be able to mount the drive in Windows? Can I just copy data
into /home/[username] and then take it back to the NSLU2 and boot it up?

Will this work providing I dont mess with any of the files in the file
system?

Tim

Short answer is yes, to my knowledge :)

Depends on the file system and the version of Windows.
If it's ext2/3 then there is a driver for the Windows NT stream (ie not
win9x):
