Another good point. Thanks again Gerald. Bill

I don't know the answer to that one. This link will

I read in one of the msgs here, that the devel pkg better be installed right after unslinging, because there might be conflicts with other utils!! Now I am reluctant to try this, because I have installed a lot of other pkgs already and have been customizing the unSlung for some server application. Too much effort has been installed to take a risk :(

Lighttpd and PHP-fastcgi

I have been trying to work through the HowTo doc to install lighttpd
and php-fcgi support to run a simple PHP blog. I have worked through
the HowTo, making a slight change (i edited the conf file installed by
lighttpd instead of creating a new one), and I have ran into an error
when I try to start lighttpd. I don't have an exact copy of the error
at the moment, but is was basically said the fast-cgi backend could
not start and mentioned something about disabling byte-code caching,
which I'm not using.

I also have some questions:

1) is lighttpd similar to thttpd? I have tried the use the php-thttpd
package before this, but it had problems with the POST command, so i
could not use it. I am hoping that lighttpd doesn't have the same
problem.

2) in the config file from the HowTo, there is a line pointing to a
fast-cgi.socket file in the directory where the website is, is there
actually suppose to be a file there? because i can't find a socket
file anywhere.

3) I have only been able to get lighttpd to use
/opt/share/www/lighttpd as its rot directory, but I want to use
/opt/share/www as my root directory. I don't see anything in the
lighttpd.conf file that will let me change this. Any suggests?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Well after reading some more about Dirvish I saw it is just a set of
scripts. So I installed the prereq Perl modules and then installed
dirvish. And although I have only got it to work so far locally on the
Slug, it does actually work OK. My problems concern using SSH as the
transport from the remote machines, and Dirvish itself. But I may get
a chance to work on them this weekend.

The info about other Optware targets is very useful - thanks for spearheading this effort.

Good point - as I said, it was late.

Does anyone else have any comments to make on whether this sort of info is useful and is anyone who knows about
the Maxtor Shared Storage or NAS100d prepared to fill in the details.

Re: Re: Dirvish for backups. No unslung package, why?

I've just installed BackupPC (backuppc.sf.net) at work, and I'm wondering if it will just work on the slug
too - it's also just perl scripts and ssh/rsync.

BackupPC is nice, but can eat a LOT of memory. Also, make sure you turn
compression off or set it to a very fast level (having the slug bzip2ing is
no fun at all). We use it at work too, but I've had cases where it was
swapping 200 megs to disk (on a 256MB dedicated P3 backup machine). Then
again we have literally millions of files, so it might not apply in general
(perl in my experience is very generous on allocating memory but not too keen
on releasing it).

I haven't seen any reports of success building the unslung build system under
cygwin but then I haven't seen any reports of failure either. I use the same
cross compiler build system (targetting a power pc, not the slug) succesfully at
work under XP although it does seem a bit slower than running on Linux so it
would be worth a try.

sshd_config) and i choose Yes, also tried no.
5. Says upgrading, closing my connection.
6. Trying to reconnect, but doesnt let me in. Tried port 22 and the one

7. Now i have to unpower the nslu2 and start it again.
8. When i now reconnect it's the old openssh running.
