Re: iPrint client for Intel based Macs

Nathan,

I haven't tried it but will today. I wonder if Firefox works (getting
around the possible Safari issue).

network monitoring

We are reviewing our current network monitoring tools and are interested in what you are using. We have a
mixed environment, but basically would like to find something that incorporates:

UNIX
Linux
Novell
Active Directory

I really want to find out what is working/not working for others - something easy to set up and configure -
nice interface -a nice dashboard - escalation, dependencies.... and trending is a must.

Thanks! -sharon

Re: iPrint client for Intel based Macs

Steve,

Please let me know what you find. I started a thread on the Novell
iPrint support forum, and there seems to be some debate as to whether
the client should work or not. Some additional data might be helpful.
We tried Firefox here to no avail.

Thanks,

Nathan

Re: network monitoring

has anyone got a good outline of the various Novell MIB's (short of
reading the MIB files which is what I'm doing now..)
They seem to have lots of good stuff (clustering, etc), but a ref would
be great. I'm trying to get our WUG install to pay better attention to
our Novell gear. The stuff I have been able to find on the Novell site
is all about using ZFS to monitor things. (nice but not an option at the
moment) I like Adrem's server manager a lot but really want to get
everything into 1 pane..
Thx!

btw - depending on your size (smaller being better I suspect), the new
version of WUG Pro has got great bang for the buck. Cheap, with a nice
new interface, you can group devices, apply changes at group level and
monitor syslog, snmp & WMI bits. We're using it to watch all of our
desktops and windows servers to make sure key services are running (zen
patch mgmt, spooler, etc) and watch CPU, Disc, & Mem useage trends so
we know who needs a new box and who does not. It has dependencies, and
you can create 'escalations' via different actions. (down? do this. Down
2 minutes, do this, down 20 min do this..) Web interface is well done,
there are different users levels/rights.. only real gripe is that it's
too sensitive out of the box (you'll get millions of emails) and is
almost totally MSFT centric (it did get the interfaces on my Solaris
servers, HP switches and Cisco routers, but no mem or CPU.). You can
import MIB's for other devices (sparc, netware, etc) but you cannot
graph or trend them w/o a 3rd party product (denika) which looks like an
RRD tool based add-in. IMHO you should be able to trend anything you can
load a MIB for.. SNMP is SNMP.

An inplace upgrade is always problematic. Too many old files can get left behind. Simply not over written,

Re: iPrint client for Intel based Macs

Nathan,

Safari thinks the iPrint client isn't installed even though it is. I have
seen similar behaviour with other applications running on my Intel Mac.
Firefox 1.5 works for us. One thing a coworker told me is that you have to
reboot after installing the iPrint client. Which version of Firefox did you
try?

Re: At Wits End

I agree with Joe.

I had the same problem when I upgrade from 5.1 to 6.5.
We ended up having broken certs. 5.1 is not as heavily relied on certs as 6.5 is.
Unless you are using certs for specific reasons in 5.1 you could have broken certs and not even know it
until you try to upgrade to 6.5.

My 2 cents
