The client certainly isn't quite right yet. We seem to circle
around a small set of issues without actually solving any, despite
offered technical advice. I can't remark on nwcopy matters, not having
looked at them very much. I can say, however, that efficient comms is
not a strong suit for the C32 group. NMAS overhead is from another group.

TSAFS isn't broken. Instead it is revealing a deeper problem which
has been present for a long time. The problem is memory fragmentation, and
TSAFS is but one demanding consumer. It is unclear yet whether similar
issues will arise on Linux platforms.

Has anyone any insights into this problem?

I have been happily running the pkB patch to the Netware Client 4.9sp2, but
when I installed the pkC I found that my JRBIMPRT program stopped between
every imported user with this error message:

JRBIMPRT.EXE - Unable To Locate Component
This application has failed to start because nmas.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I tried revving my client back, and check every file upgraded by pkC, and
still this error persists.
NMAS is not to my knowledge installed on this PC.

So I copied NMAS.DLL (followed by LEGACYLOGIN.DLL and then NMASMSG.DLL) from
ConsoleOne to SYSTEM32, and JRBIMPRT now works.

I do not want to roll out this patch if it is going to do this to every
machine.

What's gone on?

Cheers,

Angus

preventing users from browsing networked folder contents

Running NW6.5 with all XP clients. I was wondering if there was a
means of preventing users from browsing the contents of network
folders, or even better -hiding those folders from their view, while
still allowing them permissions to those folders (read/write/modify)
for the purposes that the applications they use need access to files
within those folders.
Users still need permissions to those folders but I want to prevent
them from viewing certain folders (not all) when they use "My
Computer" or "Windows Explorer"

Thanks

How many products on one server?

Using novell for small bus 65 (or, really any nw65) ... how many
individual products does it make sense to install?

For example ... on a single server:

Base Config:
DNS/DHCP/iFolder/NetStorage/iPrint/FTP/iManager, this seems to be ok.

1)Does it make any sense/would it work to also add the Virtual Office
stuff to this server? Are there any port conflicts, etc ... that would
muck everything up?

2)what about adding the GroupWise 65 components (including GWIA and
WebAcc) to the
a)base config above, or
b)to the base config plus option 1 above?
c)would only having an MTA and POA be acceptable with base + 1?

Just wondering what "the list" thinks ... TIA!

Peter

RE: preventing users from browsing networked folder contents

Take away the assigned F (File scan) right from the group or user assigned or use the Inherited Rights filter
and block the File Scan (F) for that folder.

Re: preventing users from browsing networked folder contents

Hi,

You can hide drive letters in Windows; if you're not using group policy,
you can do it via the regitry:
http://www.winnetmag.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/37880/37880.html

A Google search for "hiding drive letters in windows xp" will return
several potentially useful hits.

Me Too(tm).

After replacing my old trusty WinNT workstation with XP, the only task
that I have in Novell Desktop Management scheduler no longer runs. It
works if i manually click Run Now, but nothing seems to happen at night
when it should run automatically (I've sat around and watched my
workstation do nothing). I'm still using client 4.83SP2 and Zen2
starter pack, so the only thing that changed is the OS version.

No suggestions, sorry. Except go back to NT ;-)

Re: preventing users from browsing networked folder contents

Won't this also prevent them from running the programs installed in
those directories?

Re: How many products on one server?

On my DMZ server I have VO, iFolder, iPrint, Netstorage installed
which it handles fine in addition to normal file serving. I think
there's an article around on installing all SBS services on one box,
so I guess that means it's possible. I specifically remember a
Brainshare session last spring that involved this.
