GroupWise 7.0.2 GWIA Post HotPatch 1a - Rev A. 7.0.2HP

Anyone got this to install? I keep getting a application fault when trying to run install.exe to update the
files. I need it to (hopefully) resolve an abend introduced with 7.0.2!

Turning off DEP doesn't resolve it, and no-one has made any comments in the Knowledgebase or Novell Forums AFAIK.

Thanks in advance!
Scott

Hi,

This might save someone some time...

I have a NW6.5.5 server crash on Monday. The SYS volume had some file corruption. Not known why. There was no power event and the raid5 disk system claimed it was OK.

The symptom was some files loaded correctly at LOADSTAGE 3. The logger showed NLMs not auto loaded - so nothing worked properly as subsequent stuff must be dependent. I tried loading the files from A: and while they loaded it did not help get the server up to a manageable point.

So I spent USD650 and talked to Novell. As suspected I had to rebuild the SYS volume. But we used tid 3617668. There is stuff there I did not know. Specifically step 6 where the installation is varied with parameters. After that it is a straight reinstall. The advantage was that it reinstalled SYS but kept practically all none core files on SYS. GroupWise and our intranet are on other volumes and seem OK.

There were a few gotchas. The autoexec.ncf was overwritten as were http.conf and php.ini. And a few other ncf files were lost too. But I did not have to reinstall any other product.

Having had the DOS partitions disappear before I have backups. I use startx and the file manager to copy the C: drive to disk and then I back it up. I also now have updated copies of all my SYS volumes too [I have space]. I got my aotoexec.ncf from the online backup... When I get the server 100% right I will also back up the various ini and conf files - just to be sure!

I also found that when the server was broken I could not run TOOLBOX. Even the old versions. During the reinstall I learnt that toolbox is now biuilt in to NetWare 6.5, Just load TBX.NLM. Neat.

Re: GroupWise 7.0.2 GWIA Post HotPatch 1a - Rev A. 7.0.2HP

Hi Ben, don't be rude :p

I have the file, thanks...I just can't get the 'install.exe' to run at all. It always faults. Wondering if
anyone else got it to run on their copy of windows, and if so, what version? Methinks SP2 or some security
patch is causing it...in which case, what versions of windows do Novell use internally? lol

Cheers,
Scott

Free disk space

Hi all,

Our proxy server seems to be falling over a lot lately (SUSE Linux).  I have just deleted the cache.log

When I check disk space, it tells me that 2 volumes are used 100%
  • /dev/evms/DATA_POOL (mounted on /opt/novell/nss/mnt/.pools/DATA_POOL)
  • DATA (mounted on /media/nss/DATA)
Should I be concerned :-(

Understandably, squid (and almost anything else that uses local disk to
cache remote objects) performs poorly when not given sufficient disk
space. I amazed at how many people seem to have squid installations
without automatic daily log rotation (with compression) configured. A
modern Linux distro should provide a working /etc/logrotate.conf/squid
that keeps your logs in check with very little tweaking.

Of course. Whether you should just delete files to rectify it is
another question that only you can answer.

Re: Fwd: Syncsort Backup Express Education Promotion

Have been using it for a number of months now Michael. Am using it to back up 4 x OES Netware, 1 x SLES10, 1 x
Win2003 servers. Backing up to a HP Ultrium (LTO 3) tape drive, and also to a 1TB hard drive.
It's uses a clunky web-based interface, but once I became used to its quirky menu system, have found it to be
reliable. Importantly, it has been very solid where it counts, ie. the actual backup and restore
processes, both to tape and to the disk. It ain't cheap though.

Greg

month trying to do a full audit of my stuff just to get a price ..
I want to know if it's in my range, to pursue ..

Greg

Re: Fwd: Syncsort Backup Express Education Promotion

$11,250 ex. GST all up Michael, made up of:

$7,450 for 10 "clients" ie backup 10 machines - with open file and
GroupWise backup options
$2,800 for 12 months maintenance

This was for what they called the SMB Solution licence which has some
restrictions, eg:
- one master server
- one tape device only
- max of 4 clustered physical nodes (though we don't use clusters yet)

This was purchased through Rosser Communications - don't think Open
Channel Solutions sold it at the time.
