Log of logins/logouts for Netware servers.

Hi

I am currently testing an NLM that records logins AND logouts on NetWare servers.

It records to a daily log in CSV format - se eg below. Still settling on what detail is available...
I want it because it is difficult to record logouts especially. I run on each server.
This is mainly to keep track of what students are doing!
It records server events [for eDir I guess] and backup connections and Zen workstations too.

ServerName, ConnectionNumber, Login/out, Date,Time, IP, UserName, Context
FS1,89,Logout,12-Apr-2007,10:34:53,192.168.48.12,Bill,Teachers.Staff.School
FS1,67,Login,12-Apr-2007,11:24:07,192.168.200.1,Fred,Teachers.Staff.School
FS1,89,Login,12-Apr-2007,11:24:07,192.168.200.1,Fred,Teachers.Staff.School

Out of curiosity - is anyone else interested in this utility?
No cost yet but should not be expensive.
Please let me know as I would like to tell the developer.

Thanks.

Re: Log of logins/logouts for Netware servers.

It depends on how it does it, I guess. Too many students just hit the
reset button on a machine when they are finished.
Also, with the move towards Linux/OES, I'm trying to limit any new NLMs,
since they wont run, except on legacy/virtualized NW.

Re: Log of logins/logouts for Netware servers.

Hi

Basically the nlm is pulling stuff that is event driven and some of it is as for seen Users in Monitor.

response to the question is:

An NLM has no knowledge of the computer's name. To get this, a program
would have to be run in the login script.

Hi

Basically the nlm is pulling stuff that is event driven and some of it
is as for seen Users in Monitor.

response to the question is:

An NLM has no knowledge of the computer's name. To get this, a program
would have to be run in the login script.

I am currently testing an NLM that records logins AND logouts on

It records to a daily log in CSV format - se eg below. Still settling
on what detail is available...
I want it because it is difficult to record logouts especially. I run
on each server.
This is mainly to keep track of what students are doing!
It records server events [for eDir I guess] and backup connections and
Zen workstations too.

Re: Log of logins/logouts for Netware servers.

Hi Martin,

I have policies preventing users running DOS boxes and therefore batch files - I found! Too many holes if permitted. This is why I have followed the nlm path as the developer had something previously prepared that does most of what I wanted.

Workstation Startup Scripts in GP failing

Hello All,

sorry for the cross posting if you are a member of Q-Site LAN that is
below is an extract of that message:

I have a Workstation Startup Script that is run through Group Policy applied by Zenworks assigned to the
Workstation in eDirectory. The actual script the group policy calls is on the local harddisk and everyone
(including the computer) has full read access to the script files.

What seems to be happening is random computers will at random times not run this startup script.

For example I might boot a machine at it will not run the script, I'll reboot it and it will run, then reboot it
again and it will not run. It is completely random across all hardware types, network infrastructure and
logical subnets.

I have been using different Novell Clients and different zenworks clients but the problem still remains.
I've read through pages of knowledge base articles on Novells Support site but to no avail...

Has anyone else had/having this problem?

Re: Workstation Startup Scripts in GP failing

Not a solution, but a question.
What does the script do? Are you able to put some innocuous command in
the script to verify if the script is even being accessed. Eg, echo the
date/time to a file, before you execute the guts of the script.
Just because I have had stuff in the past that loks like it randomly
will not access the scripts, but in actual fact, the script is being
accessed but failing to complete, or execute properly.

Just a thought.
