getting mysql...admin.exe to be found by the koha install

We have downloaded the following:

apache_2.0.59-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi

mysql-4.1.22-win32.zip

ActivePerl-5.8.8.817-MSWin32-x86-257965.msi

Perl5.8.xModulesForKohaR3.EXE

Koha2.2.6-W32-R1.EXE

Koha2.2.7-W32-R1.EXE

We ran through the install (not installing the Perl5.8
package and installing Koha2.2.7 in preference to Koha
2.2.6), putting the files in the proper directories as
far as we know.

At the end of the install Koha gave a message that it
could not find Mysql...admin.exe. Moreover, although
the Apache icon (not a feather) was in the systray, we
did not have the mysql icon in the systray at all.

Please note that the www.koha.org page recommends an
earlier version of Mysql (4.0.something), but we could
not find this at the mysql site given. The closest we
could find was mysql 4.1.22, avoiding as recommended
mysql 5. Upon installation of mysql, we encountered
screens that are not anticipated in the installation

Re: getting mysql...admin.exe to be found by the koha install

Hi,

First of all install Apache server under "c:\program files\". Apache server
will be installed under the name c:\program files\Apache Group\Apache2

then install mysql under "c:\mysql"
then perl under "c:\usr"

and lastly run "Koha2.2.7-W32-R1.EXE"

Hope this will solve the problem.

Fwd: Re: getting mysql...admin.exe to be found by the koha install

For the list:

Evidently we were not clear about what the problem is.
We did the install as given below and as given in the
koha directions. The problem is that we do not know
how to install mysql given that we have a slightly
different version before us with different screens for
configuration from what the installation notes leads
us to expect. The result is that we get a message
from Koha on install that it can't find
mysql...admin.exe. The problem is not the
installation folder, which is correctly defined. The
problem is elsewhere, but we do not know where.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks very much,

Just to be clear...for indexing

I'm running

Server information

Koha version2.2.5

OS version ('uname -a')Linux maple 2.4.27-2-386 #1 Wed Aug 17 09:33:35 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

Perl version5.008004

MySQL versionmysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.24, for pc-linux-gnu (i386)

Apache version

However, my indexing seems to be lost as I can pull up lists of items with the Item Type or Branch search, but
not any of the other searches.

Do I still need the Zebra plug-in? My tech support is not clear on what needs to be done.

ARGH! Just one more reason that I want the server in my office, not upstairs & inaccessible to me.

I would definitely recommend that you NOT use the Zebra plugin. If you
installed it there is a good chance you'll need to restore from a
previous backup. The Zebra plugin is really only useful for medium-
large collections (more than say 200,000 records) -- if I remember
correctly, your running less than 20,000 records so I'd stick with
a stock 2.2 install (upgrading to 2.2.7 would be a good idea).

Arabic Translation of Koha (again)

Hello,

Mohammed posted a message in Aug 2006, but I did not find an answer.

I would like to know anyone replied (or know) that if there is an Arabic interface (OPAC?) for Koha.

Thanks,

Yan Han

Hello everyone,

I've been recently working on translating Koha to Arabic, however I can across

this article on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koha_(software) ) that

says that Koha was already translated to Arabic. I didn't see any arabic PO

files in the main Koha distribution though.

So I just want to know if Koha was translated to Arabic or not, and if it was

translated then where is the Arabic PO file.

Best Regards,

Mohammed

Re: getting mysql...admin.exe to be found by the koha install

One possible solution - I posted a copy of mysql  v4.0.26 at http://koha.rwjr.com/  The link is at the bottom of the page.
If you don't see it, refresh the page. I guess the 4.0.x versions are no longer available from the mysql site.

Another solution - to use mysql 4.1.22 - try these instructions:

1. Download and run mysql-essential-4.1.22-win32.msi or mysql-4.1.22win32.zip (unzip and run setup.exe)
2. Choose Custom Setup Type
3. Important - Change the install path to C:\mysql
4. Leave the default settings for any other install options
5. Click next as required and then install
6. You can Skip Sign-Up for a MySQL account, or sign-up if you want to.
7. When the install finishes, choose to "Configure the MySQL Server Now".
This will start the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard
8. Choose Standard Configuration
9. On the next screen choose to:
    Install as Windows Service
    Launch the MySQL Server Automatically
Include Bin Directory in Windows Path
10. Modify Security Settings:
Enter a password for your root user. Make a record of the password in a safe place so you don't forget it.
Probably DO NOT allow root access from remote machines
Probably DO NOT create an anonymous account
11. Click Execute to configure the database
12. Click Finish to close the Wizard

Run the Koha w32 install package:
1. When it complains it can't find WinMySQLadmin, click OK.
2. When you get an error that it can't connect to the MySQL Database, click on the Test Connection button
3. Enter the password for the root user (from step 10 of the mysql install above), and click OK
4. The connection should succeed and you should be able to complete the install.

You still won't have a WinMySQLadmin in the systray, but mysql should be running. Start and stop the windows service for mysql when you want to start and stop the database. Or you can copy winmysqladmin from an earlier version - it should still work (I can supply a zipped copy if you want).

I ran through this procedure on a test machine today, and it worked. I will try to work on making the w32 install package more compatible with mysql 4.1 in the near future.

Upon installation of mysql, we encountered screens that are not anticipated in the installation notes, particularly as concerns the configuration. There are three options, no configuration, typical configuration and full configuration. On the install we are describing we did the typical configuration. However, as pointed out above we didn't have any success with getting koha to work since it couldn't find mysql...admin.exe. We did execute 'mysql' under run, and we did get something, but we clearly are ignorant how to set up mysql to work with koha. In other respects the Koha install runs to completion. We tried a second installation telling mysql not to configure, running the separate Perl koha modules package and again installing Koha, but we got the same problem with mysql...admin.exe. Can someone coach us what to do? Koha Lover __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! defining the MARC tag structure

Koha Management;

I am trying out Koha and at the stage of defining the MARC tag structure.
However, iam a bit confused. Do I have to adopt the tag structure that I see
already defined or I make my own. Do you have a manual that I can follow so as
i can define my own structure.

I have been using WINISIS, but when I got hold of KOHA, I felt it is quite
useful and I want to try it out.

I shall be grateful for your kind and quick response o this problem.

In fact, you can make your own framework.
there are two different default frameworks to start from :
- USMARC
- UNIMARC (only in french at the moment)

That said, you can add tags and subfields through
parameter/biblioframeworks pages
You can choose to have multiple frameworks and you will have to choose
the one you want to use at biblio creation.
Hope that helps.
