only positive y

hi,

unfortunatly i dont know the english word of what im searching for.
i want the program to draw functions with only positive y.
generally it is written like this: f(x)= |x^3| for example.
i read the help and the faq but did not find anything. hope you can help.

thx

Re: only positive y

I think you mean "the signed value". Try to draw the function

f(x)=sign(x^3)

Best regards,
Michael

Re: only positive y

Please try f(x)=abs(x^3)

Re: only positive y

no, though its another interessting function i know some things to use it for.
what i search is the absolute value. for example:
f(x) = |x|
f(-2) = 2
g(x) = |x^3|
g(-2) = 8 (instead of -8 when it was just x^3

Shading a system of linear inequalities

I was wondering if you could tell me how to shade a system of linear inequalities. the systems is 3x-y is less than or equal to 6, x is greater than or equal to 1 and y is less than or equal to 3. Thank you. I have them plotted just can't figure out the shading on it.

Thanks

The easiest way is to use a relation (Function|Insert relation). Enter
the relation as: 3x-y<=6 and enter the constraints as: x>=1 and y<=3

how to measure a distance between two points

Hi,

does anybody have an idea how to measure the distance between two points?

Thank You!

Re: how to measure a distance between two points

In FUNCTION select INSERT TRENDLINE. LINEAR and then in CALC select LENGTH OF
PATH

Re: Beta353 bug - drawing relations hogs the PC

OK, I had little time lately, but I managed to do a few tests: the problem is
still there also for beta 362.

I made a comparison test between graph 4.2 and beta 362, therefore PC
configuration shouldn't be affecting the results.

I set up the graph window at 800x600 and plotted the relation x^2 + y^2 = 5;
with graph 4.2 it took about 2sec whereas with beta 362 took about 20sec!!!
Apparently with functions the time is the same.

If I maximize the window (1680x1050) the time increases to about 6sec for 4.2
and more than 90sec for beta362.

BTW, even if it hogs the CPU the beta is still responsive: the computation can
be stopped with ESC, therefore I suppose that some inefficiency has crept in in
the relation plotting algorithm.

Best Regards
Lorenzo
