Using Treo 600 and I-Book Laptop

I just purchased an I-Book laptop. I have a Treo 600.
I downloaded the wireless modem software for this
model and OSX but the PDA is not responding. Are there
any tricks to know about? Has anyone else been
successful doing this. I want to use the Treo as a
tethered modem for the laptop.

Re: Contents of letter/ wirelessmodem-users Digest, Vol 36, Issue 1

Hi,
Yes, you can do what you are trying to do. I followed the instructions
on here that a man from Delaware wrote. I can't remember his name, but
the directions were very thorough. I would explain it to you myself,
but I haven't used it in a while and don't remember exactly how to set
it all up. Hopefully this post will jog the memory of the fellow that
explained it to me. But, you can do what you are trying, don't give
up!!!

Tom, I am probably that "man from Delaware". If so, thanks for the
compliment,
and here is what I wrote earlier. I hope it will help. The first
paragraph refers
to the "can connect but soon stalls" problem:

You have encountered the one greatest drawback to the Treo600 and
internet connectivity via Wirelessmodem. This is a "Day One" bug and
has never been fixed despite apparent efforts on the part of
developers. It is well known to all who have been on this email list
for a while, but very frustrating to new users. The problem lies in a
flaw in the USB connectivity between the Treo and the Mac. The good
news is that there is a workaround. The bad news is that it's a bit
kludgey.

Here's how to achieve reliable internet connectivity. Starting from

Re: Bill Halberstadt's Instructions

Hi Bill,
I'm sorry I forgot your name, but you are who I was referring to. Your
instructions are what I meant. I'm glad you gave them to the list
again. I still have my Treo 600, but haven't been away on a trip so I
haven't used it to connect the powerbook lately. I'm saving your
instructions this time. We all are grateful for your help. Are you
still traveling in the RV?

Re: Somewhat Off-Topic

Yes, I am still traveling about 1/2 time in my motorhome. My internet
connectivity is now usually
via a Motosat/Datastorm satellite antenna on the roof when parked/
camped, or via the Treo 600,
Sprint and wirelessmodem when the antenna is not up. Next backup is
the Motorola V710 and
Verizon, via bluetooth. Last resort is paying for Wi-Fi at a truck
stop, campground, or Internet
cafe. That option moves up to second place when traveling in Mexico.
You can see where we
are at any time by going to:

    <http://map.datastormusers.com/user3.cfm?user=2240>

You can read all about our travels in Mexico, with many comments on
Internet connectivity,
by going to:

    <http://homepage.mac.com/wlhalberstadt>

(I recommend downloading the 8.1MB PDF rather than reading online,
unless your internet
connection is slow).

Hi Bill, nice explanation. Does this work while using the Treo in
GPRS/Internet mode?

I ask because I'm a T-Mobile user and it allows two digital forms of
internet access: GPRS and TZones .. both of which use the internet
digital facilities of T-Mobile's GSM system.

(I suspect I'm asking this question inaccurately! Basically T-Mobile
has an internet connection setup in the preferences and I'd like to
use this rather than the phone side of the Treo.)

Re: Instructions for Treo 600 and Mac Powerbook

Thanks, Owen, but all my experience with the Treo 600 has been with
Sprint (CDMA).

WirelessModem is now for sale

After a lot of thinking, I have decided to sell WirelessModem in the
hopes that someone with more time and more knowledge than me can
improve the application and make it easier to use. Unfortunately I
have not had the time nor the desire to develop the software over the
last few years; when it first came out and I was using the software
myself on a regular basis, things got addressed quickly. However,
with the new devices and the increase in my workload, I have not been
able to keep up.

If there are any developers out there seriously interested in picking
up WirelessModem, please contact me at: sales <at> notifymail.com

I appreciate everyone's support over the last few years and wish that
I could have been able to solve problems for everyone.
