ANN: GNUstep Startup 0.11.0

The GNUstep Startup Package, version 0.11.0 is now available.

What is the GNUstep Startup Package?
====================================

GNUstep Startup is a compilation of the following core GNUstep packages:
gnustep-make Version 1.10.0
gnustep-base Version 1.10.3
gnustep-gui Version 0.9.5
gnustep-back Version 0.9.6

The main advantage of Startup is that it includes a script to
automatically build and install the core GNUstep system.

After installing GNUstep Startup, you will have a complete system for
compiling and running GNUstep applications. You will, of course, need
to compile and install applications (such as GWorkspace) to actually
use GNUstep in a runtime system. For a complete developement system,
you would also need to install the Gorm and ProjectCenter
applications.

The installation scripts have been tested on:

GNU-Linux/PPC (YellowDog Linux 3.0)
Darwin/PPC 7.x
Solaris/SPARC 2.7
NetBSD/ix86
NetBSD/sparc64
Debian Unstable/ix86
Gentoo/ix86

ANN: GNUstep RPMs for SuSE 9.1 and SuSE 9.3

Binary RPMs, sufficient to set up a basic working GNUstep system under
SuSE 9.1 or SuSE 9.3, are now available for download. The packages
comprise the 4 core GNUstep libraries, the GWorkspace file manager and
the Gorm user interface builder (for developers). The ViewPDF
application is not included this time.

These are built from the latest GNUstep sources available on general
release, and incorporate enhancements and bug-fixes over previous
versions.

There are no SuSE 9.2 versions included; the 9.1 or 9.3 versions
/might/ work under 9.2 but I haven't tested this.

Both sets of packages have been built to use the libart backend, which
supports anti-aliased text. The SuSE 9.3 versions were built against
cairo and glitz, but the SuSE 9.1 packages were not because these
libraries are not included in SuSE 9.1.

For SuSE 9.1, download from:

note that there is a README file at

For SuSE 9.3, download from:
<URL:http://www.rstonehouse.co.uk/extras/gnustep-1.10/SuSE_9.3/> and
note that there is a README file at
<URL:http://www.rstonehouse.co.uk/extras/gnustep-1.10/SuSE_9.3/README.suse93>

Please note that, if you go to either site using a web browser, the
README files do not appear in the Index listing displayed by the

ANNOUNCE: Gorm-0.9.10

ANNOUNCE
********

This is version 0.9.10 of Gorm.

What is Gorm?
=============

   Gorm is an acronym for Graphic Object Relationship modeler (or
perhaps GNUstep Object Relationship Modeler).

   Gorm is a clone of the NeXTstep `Interface Builder' application for
GNUstep.

Noteworthy changes in version `0.9.10'
======================================

   * Gorm now has a full implementation of canSubstituteForClass: which
     is used to determine if a class can be substituted in the custom
     class inspector. This allows classes added in palettes to say
     whether or not they can be used as a subsitute for a kit class.

   * Better separation of Gorm into libraries. As well as the ability
     to compile on windows with a simple: "make install"

   * Implementation of IBResourceManager class. This class is used by
     palettes to register drag types to be considered by the top level
     editors in the document window: object, sound, image, class.

   * Gorm now is able to switch views in the document window when you

ANN: Burn 0.4.1

ANNOUNCE
***********

This is version 0.4.1 of Burn.

What is Burn?
=========

Burn is a CD burning frontend for GNUstep.

Noteworthy changes in version `0.4.1'
========================

- The cdrecord and cdrdao backends are now able to handle ATAPI
devices.
   This, however, requires fairly recent versions of those tools (see
README).
- Added overburn option for both backends. Currently this must be
switched
   on manually in the parameters dialog. Maybe in the future we may try
to
   detect this automatically.
- ISO image files may now be opened with a double-click or 'gopen'
(Burn.app
   registers for suffix .iso).
- The miniwindow for the BurnProgress panel now displays the progress.
- The cdrdao backend bundle is no longer part of the release, but can
be
   downloaded separately from the site mentioned below. This is to avoid
   bloating the install package with stuff only few people will use.
