XAML Alternatives

Hello Sandip,

> is XAML is a replacement for MXML ???

Microsoft's XAML is an alternative offering shipping with the next
version of Windows (Windows 2007? 2008?).

Note, that there are open source alternatives such as MyXAML that
you can use today.

> What about platform and OS dependancy?

MyXAML requires a .NET runtime. For Java, Python, C/C++ and so on
stop at the XUL Alliance site online @ http://xulalliance.org

Yes, you can. Just try it out. The look and feel will be no
different from a "classic" desktop application.

the source online @ http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/xaml/mycroxaml

To find out more about MycroXAML - a XAML parser for
Mono/DotGNU/.NET in less than 300 lines of C# code created by Marc

Article: Dynamic Windows Forms with XAML - Techniques and advantages

Hello,

Adam Kinney has written an article for the .NET Developer's Journal
titled "Dynamic Windows Forms with XAML - Techniques and advantages".

  Adam writes:

During one of my first presentations on XAML as an emerging
technology, an enlightened attendee asked if it were possible to load
Windows Forms user interfaces via a Web service. I knew we had run
successful tests that loaded XAML at run time in the Windows Forms
environment, so I answered with a certain "yes." Afterwards, I was
motivated to create an interesting sample application focused on
dynamic Windows Forms leveraging XAML.

VanDev Mini Talk - The Future of the Web: Rich Clients, Rich Browsers

Hello,

In case you're in the Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada) area
allow me to highlight tomorrow's upcoming mini talk titled "The Future
of the Web: Rich Clients, Rich Browsers, Rich Portals" covering markup
languages that go way beyond HTML and that let you create rich
"classic desktop-style" internet applications using web techniques.

The Vancouver Software Developers Network (VanDev) will host the
mini talk tomorrow, that is, Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 7:00 PM at
the UBC Robson Square Downtown Campus in room C550.

  See http://softwaredev.meetup.com/17/events/4028039 for details.

  - Gerald

PS: Please, note that the VanDev format encourages speakers to keep
the one-way presentation as short as is reasonable in order to focus
on interactive discussion. I will follow the format and hope to be
done in about twenty five minutes.

If you're undecided, here's my talk slide lineup outlining the topics
I will try to touch on:

o Why Rich Clients? Why Rich Browsers? Isn't Dynamic HTML (aka HTML,
DOM, JavaScript) enough?
o One Language Can't Do It All: Beyond Hairballs and Spaghetti Code
o What is XUL?
o XUL Vision
