Assigning a new Stereotype to a Class

Hi,

I'm trying to learn how to use ArgoUML. I've downloaded 0.19.3 and got a copy of
"Enterprise Java Development on a Budget" which includes a section on ArgoUML
(Ch 2).
I'm trying to work through the example project but I cannot find out how to
assign a new stereotype which I have created to a class. The tutorial text
suggests that my new stereotypes should be visible in the dropdown list of
stereotypes for the class but all I see there are the standard set of stereotypes.
How can I get ArgoUML to include my new stereotypes (which I can see as part of
my project solution on the left of the screen) in the list of available
stereo-types?

Secondly, the book I'm using is recommending using the 'Coad' colour key to help
identify items in the project. It instructs me to set the colour using the Style
tab of a Stereotype. My Style tab is greyed out whenever I select a Stereotype.
How can I enable it?

Jon Riding.

Re: Assigning a new Stereotype to a Class

Hi Jon,

a do not know exactly how to reproduce your problem, however, this is
how you can proceed easily to create new stereotypes for classes:

In a diagram add a class and look at the property panels. One icon of
the buttons on the left hand side has an icon like '<< >>'. Press the
"new stereotype" button and enter a name for the stereotype. Now your
class is already stereotyped.

Your second problem. Stereotypes do not have presentation options (yet).
Select the class and assign it a color if you want to. I do not really
recommend using color as a signifier in diagrams, create useful diagrams
instead before getting lost in details like layout and color.

Let me know if it helped, as I am using the CVS version of ArgoUML,
things might work a bit different for you.

Repository

Hi !

Last week, I downloaded ArgoUml and I was testing it during last week.

Please, could you give me information for managing repository with ArgoUML?

I mean, I want to export diagram to a database instead of XMI.

Can I do that?

I was looking mailing list and I found that there were a script called
"create_only.sql" but I could not found it.

Please, Can you help me?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Gera

Re: Repository

Gerado,

we dropped the support for databases from ArgoUML since it was not
stable. I am sorry, there is currently no possibility to save the file
to a database.

Re: Repository

Markus,

Do you know if future release will have support for databases?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: Repository

Well, I do not know anyone working on it. It might however be, that the
new MDR implementation supports easier storing of meta data in
databases. But - if on the other hand - you are looking for a database
storage because you think that it enables you to simultaneously work on
the model, you are mistaken. ArgoUML would not support that. If it is
just persistant storage it should be really easy to add support for an
XML database like http://xml.apache.org/xindice/

Re: Repository

Ok..
So.. it does not support many users working at the same time..
That is a feature that I really need... :(

Thanks a lot!

Re: Repository

Some months ago, Mauro Pichiliani said that he implemented some collaborative features for argouml. I didn't ask him more details, because I'm not an expert in this field, but you may want to.
The message I'm talking about is

Re: Repository

The Ophelia project - actualy their Orpheus sub-project - also
worked out a version of ArgoUML with multi-user support. I think
they don't have muti-user model editing, but something more
basic...
