R jargon

The document 'Some hints for the R beginner'
is gradually becoming more complete and gradually
gaining momentum in terms of hits.

One of the more popular sub-pages is the jaRgon
page even though there is hardly anything on it.

I think the R-wiki is the place that such a list
should live. My vision is that for each word
there be a brief definition and then a link to a
wiki page for the word. A number of definitions
would be on the same page.

I think this could be the application that finally
gives the R-wiki the boost that it needs to fulfill
its promise. The people learning R from the 'hints'
document would come to think of the R-wiki as a
natural place to look for information.

The steps to do this are to create the structure
within the wiki for it, and then to populate the
definitions. The glossary from S Poetry should be
a good starting point. I'm also happy to donate
the jaRgon pun.

R-wiki down?

Dear all,

what happened to the R wiki? The links on the R homepage
(http://wiki.r-project.org) result in a 404 error. Has it been moved?

kind regards
Peter.

can I create Wiki pages for my local R User Group?

Hi,

we have organized a new R user group in Madison, WI, USA. I have edited the rugs:r_user_groups page to put in
information about our group. I would like to create a Wiki page for our meeting schedule, and possibly
other related pages in the future. Would it be appropriate to use the R Wiki for that? If so, where in the name
spaces should I put my page(s)?

Thanks.

Yury

renaming a page

Hi.

Is it possible to rename a page, which i created a few days ago?

If not, can i simply copy it under a more appropriate name
and leave the old version only with a link to the new version?

I am sorry for this, but it was hard to choose the right name
immediately.

Syntax highlighting (can I use R.php?)

I'm trying to write a wikibook (http://en.wikibooks.org/w/index.php?
title=Statistical_Analysis:_an_Introduction_using_R in case anyone is
interested) to teach statistics using R. I would like to be able to
syntax-highlight code in the book, and so I've been in touch with the
authors of GeSHi, the program used to do syntax-highlighting on the R
wiki.

Apparently, it is no longer necessary to use a hacked version of
GeSHi, since allowing keywords with dots in "can be done quite easily
with the PARSER_CONTROL settings." (see https://sourceforge.net/
support/tracker.php?aid=2276025 ). I guess that means that GeSHi can
be distributed with R highlighting built in.

Presumably all that is needed is an R.php file. There is one at
http://organicdesign.co.nz/GeSHi/R.php, but perhaps the one on the
normal R wiki is more up to date? If I can find where this is stored,
would I have permission to send it to the GeSHi people to be
distributed with future versions of GeSHi?

Cheers

Yan

R Wiki down on 27 September

Hi all,

Following the major electricity problem we got at the University during
the summer (the R Wiki was down for several days), there is a need for
shutting off electricity on the whole campus for a full day to fix it
next Thursday 27 September. Consequently, the R Wiki may be down for up
to 24h. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Best,

Philippe Grosjean

R Wiki back again

Hello all,

Sorry for the problem with the R Wiki that lasted several days. We had a
major electric cut on the campus, and with a very limited staff due to
holidays, it took longer than expected to recover. I am, myself, in
holidays and only occasionally read my emails (every ten days, or so).
The server is now working again.
Best,

Philippe Grosjean

How to upload a graphics file?

I was trying to upload a .svg file to the Wiki, but I couldn't see how
to do it.

I clicked the "Add images or other files" button and got a page (with
the category Mediafile Selection packages:cran), where I could browse to
the file on my computer (mlgvswgt1.svg) and click "Upload". However,
even though it gave no error, there was no indication that the file was
successfully uploaded, and I couldn't find it. The 5 or 6 filenames and
images in the right hand side of the "Add images..." window didn't change.

How do I go about uploading an image?

rdoc pages not finding R docs?

When I visit http://wiki.r-project.org/rwiki/doku.php?id=rdoc:base:seq ,
I see the following text:

== Rwiki file not found! ==

Be aware that due to the use of binary floating-point arithmetic, you
may not get results that are exactly equal to what
...

The source of the page starts with "~~RDOC~~".

In fact, I see this "== Rwiki file not found==" on all of the half-dozen
or so rdoc pages I tried visiting (with the exception of
http://wiki.r-project.org/rwiki/doku.php?id=rdoc:base:any, which
displayed as "~~RDOC~~"???)

Curiously, for any of these pages, when I click "Edit this page", and
then click "Preview", I see the R documentation.
