Help installing R Commander on Fedora 13...

I did a standard install of R on Fedora 13 using yum as root, which I
assumed installed both the base packages and the devel packages needed
to install R Commander (there weren't any optional packages listed on
the yum info page). My version of R is updated to the latest 2.11
version.

But, running

install.packages("Rcmdr", dependencies=TRUE) as root, within R
produces the following errors:

(Last few of a looooong list):

At this time, there is no external repository that I am aware of which
has the missing dependencies from CRAN for R Commander.

With that said, it would probably be a good set of packages for us to
target next, or for someone who wanted to get more involved with Fedora
to tackle.

[R] Failure to load X11 module in Fedora 13.

I've googled around the archives for R-help and R-sig Fedora and found
that a lot of people have had the same errors I've gotten when
starting up the X11() module:

Error in X11() : X11 module cannot be loaded
In addition: Warning message:
In X11() : unable to load shared library '/usr/lib/R/modules//R_X11.so':
  /usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT_Select_Size

But I have come across zero answers to this fundamental problem. (At
least none that make sense to a newbie user like me.)

This is after a fresh install of R on Fedora 13 via Yum.

I checked and /usr/lib/R/modules/R_X11.so indeed exists. But R somehow
doesn't care and fails to load it.

So, what did anyone do to resolve this issue?

Here's my sessionInfo():

Carlo:

Don't worry, this will work out. It happens to everybody!

This will be a useful experience for you. You who will learn about
the development process a bit. Run install.packages in R, spotting
errors, then using yum to install additional devel packages, is a
useful experience. For me, it is the 'usual' state of life for a
linux.

>From your errors above, it appears the first errors you hit are
related to tcl-devel and tk-devel, which any "smart" user needs
anyway. Install them, then run the install.packages again. Then
you'll get errors "can't find gcc" or "gfortran" and you find those.
Then you will hit some other error, probably related to 3D software
development (because Rcmdr wants "rgl"). I think the Fedora package
for that will depend on the video driver you use. If this is a clean
