[Boston.pm] possible talk for next week

hi all,

i just came up with a possible talk for next week. i have been working
with a client helping them rewrite a cgi program. yep, i said cgi! they
use a wacky templating system which requires package globals to access
data! anyhow, it has slowly been rewritten (still using that templater
for now) and is much better in a myriad of ways. so i want to show it as
a before and after talk. we can look at the before and marvel at the
many poor coding things. and then ooh and aah at the after version and
it much cleaner code. it still needs work but the change is remarkable.
the client did almost all the work with my feedback and supervision.

any interest in this?

thanx,

uri

[Boston.pm] (no subject)

Hello Fellow Perl Mongers,

I will be taking the RT training from Best Practical on March 5 & 6,
2012. This puts me in Boston from Friday March 2nd to Tuesday March
6th.

I am wondering if anyone wants to get together for beer, dinner and such.

Also if you know of any geeky things like a Hacker Space or Linux User
Group meeting, etc that I should not miss please give me a heads up.

Looking forward to my first time in Boston hope to meet up with some
Fellow Perl Mongers.

If nothing else I expect a good cup of cocoa from someone.

Thanks
Robert Blackwell

[Boston.pm] The second P

Okay guys,
I haven't gotten a definite answer on this when I asked a couple of years back, so I'l ask again - flog me as you
may :)

I have a need to properly learn a certain other "P" language, and I do not mean PHP either. For Perl, my
favorite "concise" summary is the first chapter of Damian's OO Perl book. What about the other, unnamed,
language? Guido has written up a short language on the book, but what else has proven popular with people
who already knew Perl to expand their range of dynamic languages - without reading hundred of pages?

 Thanks -Federico

PS: I promise to flog myself if you guys actually come up with a good suggestion!

[Boston.pm] Perl slide generator script

Looking back in my boston.pm archive, I saw mention of a Perl slide generator script by Damian from way back
when, but there was no name for that module and Googling did not help. I found 2 modules on CPAN that looked
interesting: mkpres (seems too much work to type all those XML tags) & Perl6::Pod::Slide (seems more
lightweight, but unsure if it will work with a Perl5 install). Any usage comments on the above modules or
recommendations for other ones would be much appreciated. Output can be html (for presentation) and
preferably also support pdf (or some other single document container) for sharing offline. Support for
images would be a great plus. Thanks, -Nilanjan
