After reading the release numbering document it became slightly
clearer, and I did update the release page in an attempt to clarify it
a bit.  Please have a look at it when it's back up to see if it indeed
is a clearer description.

(Currently it is offline...) but my understanding is that
2011.1.0.0 is a beta release currently based on ghc-7.0.1
(ie what is currently in darcs), whereas 2011.2.0.0 will be a stable
release (based on ghc-7.0.2 or later).

Though I agree it is a little confusing listing the two
releases together though I guess the thinking was that
they are both part of the HP 2011 process.

It would be nice to see an updated schedule anyway.

Yes it would be nice to have versions of the released .cabal files
available online somewhere for reference.  In fact it don't really
understand why haskell-platform releases can't live on hackage
(possibly with some exception in cabal-install, etc if necessary).

Preparing for the release

Due to massive work overload, the HP 2011 initial release has been
delayed a bit longer than I'd planned, however, with BayHac on this
weekend, prepare for the specs to go up, and release candidate
installers to go live.

They can't go live last time I checked due to tool dependencies that
cabal-install was unable to resolve. That situation might have changed :
I'll know more this weekend.

There's a ticket about this issue.

This is excellent news.  Just for clarification, the spec is the final
one for HP2011.2.0.0, and the release candidates are only for the
installers, is that correct?

 Please consider including a newer version of GLUT in HP 2011.

I hope that isn't the final version 

• cabal-install 0.8.2 is reported to not build with GHC7 (this is just
what I read on the arch-haskell mailing list:
http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/arch-haskell/2011-February/001360.html)
• OpenGL 2.2.3.0 and GLUT 2.1.2.1 have broken Cabal files (see
http://trac.haskell.org/haskell-platform/ticket/157 and
http://trac.haskell.org/haskell-platform/ticket/158)

Me, too. Has the parsec-2 versus parsec-3 issue been decided, transparently?

  parsec                      ==3.1.0

The newest version is 3.1.1, but I would prefer it to remain 2.1.0.1

I've also made a proposal to adjust containers to version 0.4.0.1 in
ghc-7.0.2.
